Hi there,? so happy it is Friday! What are you up to this weekend? We are headed back out to the Hamptons, for my friends annual “Jaws” party, always fun (but it also means summer is moving along quickly and that is bittersweet:(
Moving on…..it’s funny how things happen sometimes. I had heard about the book, One Man’s Folly and decided to order it as design books are an indulgence that I never deny myself:) As it happens the day it arrived, I was also? meeting a friend for lunch whose birthday I had missed and I needed a last minute gift. Knowing her love of design books, I without even opening it wrapped the book up as it seemed perfect.
She was thrilled with it and to this day tells me it’s one of her all time favorites. I in turn, got busy, as often happens and never reordered the book. So in doing some online searching a few weeks ago, by some strange and unknown tinkering with my fingers, I came across the most fabulous photo albums from the maestro himself, Furlow Gatewood. I felt like I stumbled across the most marvelous treasure trove of beauty and inspiration, it was almost overwhelming!
Then I remembered “the book”…ahh yes this is the same man who wrote the book that was almost mine:) Naturally I promptly ordered it and got it in a few weeks ago:) Click here to order your own. As his pictures promised it was a? treat of epic proportions so I just had to share the exquisiteness of Furlow’s immense talent.
In the book you will follow the careful restoration of his family’s carriage house as well as many other “demolition bound”? outbuildings and? homes? that he saved and resurrected with his relentless vision and gift, alongside the work of local talented craftsmen.? His”follies” make for one fabulous book!
And let’s be honest, anyone who clearly loves and appreciates the “powers” of blue and white has a lifelong fan (and friend)? in me. Take it away Mr.Gatewood…..
Pretty spectacular wouldn’t you say? So if you love what you see, you might want to also consider adding his book to your personal collection. It has quickly become one of my treasured favorites…I have no doubt it will be for you too if you love classic and timeless interiors with a splash of blue and white! Click here if you wish to order it. You will not be sorry you did:)
In the meantime, thank you for stopping in, wishing you a happy Friday and great end to your week.? Until next time….and thank you Furlow Gatewood for inspiring the masses and keeping classical, traditional interiors alive and well!!
PS Very excited that the newest container of chinoiserie tole has arrived and is it ever STUNNING! Hope to get a presale up for tomorrow, stay tuned:)
Lord above…..that KITCHEN in all white and blue! One man’s folly is another man’s (or woman’s) DELIGHT! Wow. That hit home. All the white and touches of blue, Tina, this was good.
I have over 100 design books. ONE MANS FOLLY is by far my favorite. I too have given it as a gift. It’s a book to own and treasure, and to share. Wish I could know this man personally!
Such a talented man! His home is so special, I love it’s relaxed elegance furnished with his treasure of fabulous antiques. I purchased his book a few months ago and keep returning to those gorgeous pictures for inspiration.
I purchased this book last July and read it cover to cover. His is such a wonderful story and the book is one of my all-time favorites. The cover is so beautiful, that it has been on my coffee table for a year now. I can’t find another book prettier to display!
My mother’s sister married Furlow Gatewood’s first cousin. Of course, they all grew up together in same little Southern town where everyone knew everyone. The last time Mother and her sister visited Americus they went by to see Furlow at his wonderful home. What a treat! Wish I’d been able to go with them!
Tina I received Mr. Gatewood’s book, One Man’s Folly when it was released and adore it! He is a fabulous collector and has so lovingly restored his homes!i
What is not to love about the rooms with transom windows that open above the french doors – Gorgeous. It’s good to know the source of the iconic image of the long drive with Hydrangea planters lining the path. You see this photo everywhere (sans the beautiful peacock in this one).
All so romantic.
Once again you have my heart racing! What lovely examples of simple yet classic design. It makes me feel “Oh, I can do that”! Yeah right!
More importantly…I am a huge Jaws fan. I watch it whenever it’s on the tube and always a “go to” on DVD when I need my Martha’s Vineyard fix:)! This year is the 40th anniversary of the film (and more trivia, the 70th anniversary of the sinking of the USS Indianapolis -True story). Please add a few pics of the party. I’m dying to know how the hosts will carry out the theme. Perhaps I can be your Plus One?? Please?? Have fun!
Thank you, thank you! You have introduced me to my decorating muse! I had never heard of this man, but this is exactly my style for which, I might add, I am from time to time criticized by Real Simple people, especially now that I have had to incorporate it into a one-bedroom apartment. But, I do a good job of staging and layering all of my belongings in a tasteful way and shall persevere! Once, again, thanks! This is really exciting and as soon as I’m able I’ll buy the book.
Just got back late last night from Seattle and off to Nantucket (first time!) tomorrow?.so home for just a nanosecond. We SO were thinking of you at the amazing luncheon Jeanne and Dana hosted. You would have been in heaven. Of course, we all think of you with blue and white and lots of folks had your name on the tip of their tongue!! Were you ears burning?!?
Must have this book. Of course, he looks like your kindred spirit! π
Jaws party? How hysterical! Must hear more.
Hope we can get together this fall when everything gets into more of a routine.
Big hugs!
xoxo Elizabeth
