Hello and Happy New Year’s Eve……when you read this I will have been away at one my favorite spots, my new home away from home, Palmetto Bluff where we will ring in the new year for some much needed R and R. I will get back to my usual Sunday on Seven next week but today is no ordinary day….it’s New Years Eve!! I prepared this ahead of time and fingers crossed it posts when it’s supposed to, Saturday morning. Hard to believe that we are down to the last few days of 2016. Overall it has been a great year, one filled with so many wonderful “highs” and thankfully not too many “lows”.
I am grateful that you were there with me along for the ride to share in so many adventures, many more to come! As I have done the last few years, I like to feature a favorite post for every month from the last year (had a hard time choosing as there were many) and a few personal reflections after that.
Life is not perfect….for anyone. I always go through life assuming everyone is fighting some kind of a battle and try to give a break to all, hoping that someone else might do that to me one day (especially when I need the “pardon”). I think at the end of the day, most of us are doing the very best we can.
There is not a price to be put on family and togetherness. Time can be so fleeting…..I feel so lucky that both my parents are with me and I do not take advantage of a single day to call and speak to them or better yet to have them come visit. My boys are all grown up and though they are adults…to me they are still my little boys. I cherish every minute I can spend with them and really and truly appreciate each of them more every day.
The best things in life really are free…thought about that on Christmas day. We have a huge 16 foot sofa in our movie room and we were all were down there on Christmas day watching a movie and I thought during those two hours, that it just doesn’t get better than that:)
Health is well….oh boy is that true. You don’t realize it until you are aren’t feeling well then even the smallest obstacle in life feels huge. I have been ultra blessed to have good health but am not going to take advantage of it, I plan on shedding a few pounds and definitely exercising more in 2017…really and truly:) And that includes getting the dreaded colonoscopy that I should have gotten last year.
Always remember to take care of yourself first. When you feel good, you want to pass it along. When I am running ragged, I have learned to recognize it and stop and do something for myself whether its a bubble bath, a walk, a little retail therapy, reading, it is amazing how almost always it complete recharges me. Very important to take care of numero uno! BE KIND TO YOURSELF…..it pays off in spades! I have also learned the power of a power nap, just resting for 15-20 minutes…THANKS MOM!
Never pass up the opportunity to make someone else feel good. Even the tiniest gesture can mean more than you can possibly know. Why take the time to expend negative energy when you can expend the same doing or saying something nice?
There is no time like the present, if there is something you have been considering doing, a trip you wanted to take, a person you want to reach out to…DO IT! You may never get that chance again. The older I get the more I practice this, seizing the moment and day.
Quality over quantity. This does not apply to everything but for me, when I buy something of high quality whether its clothing or food, I cherish and treasure it way more. Oh yea, and that includes your inner circle. I treasure my beloved circle of amazing friends.
When I set a goal, I approach it two fold- I set a short term goal (first step of the goal overall) and a long term goal (the big picture). It makes a goal much more achievable to break it up and set a realistic milestone…..this approach has really helped me a lot and I have been successful with this approach in achieving a number of goals.
So friends, these are my musings as we close the chapter to 2016 and start anew. 2016 was a great year for me, not to say there were not bumps in the road, there surely were. But overall it was a good year and I am determined that 2017 will be even better!
You are a big part of why 2016 was a great year….you make what I do so much fun. I so love the connections I get to make from people all over the world and when I hear that my blog is a happy part of your life….it thrills me! So many thanks for following along, your kindness, support and friendship. I feel the best is yet to come and I am having such fun sharing my life with you.

Tina, what wonderful musings. Always straight from the heart. Glad you are having a getaway in this wonderful place we get to call home , the coastal south. Though we have had some grey and rainy days , the water that slinks through the salt marshes is just as bright and glistens just the same as on a sunny day. Every day is a good one!! Happy 2017, may you continue to prosper!

As always, your post cheers and energizes me. Thank you for the wonderful year you have given to all of us with your blog. Your positive attitude and appreciation of kindness and beauty has meant a lot to all of us.
Tina, thank you for being a shining light on my 2016 Strand! You’ve given me great inspiration & ideas for all the things I love; decorating, travel and food! It’s not the years in the life, it’s the life in the years!
Tina, you are stunningly gifted with words, have exquisite taste, and never fail to convey an infectiously optimistic approach to life in your blog. I look forward to many more years of my daily “tonic”. Happy New Year to you and your family.
Agree with all you said wholeheartedly! I have been working a retail job part-time over the holidays, and I try to find something about every customer I can sincerely complement, whether it’s their nice hair, or skin, or that the color shirt they are wearing is really flattering to them. Everyone is pretty stressed, and it’s great to see them smile and their eyes brighten. I think lots of times we think these things when we see people, but don’t bother to say them… Same about reaching out to people. I remember once I decided to send an email to an author whose first book really meant something to me. As it happened, her father was also a wonderful, famous author whose books I loved, so I mentioned how I thought he was a genius, and how reading about him had led me to her work. She wrote me back a long email saying that she received mine on her father’s birthday (he is deceased), and how it made her day as she and her mother were feeling really blue. So it’s important to just do those things, you never know what a difference you might make in someone’s life. Thanks for the reminders! Happy New Year to you and yours 🙂
