Hello….in getting back to the subject of design, one thing I have always loved is buffalo checks. They to me, are the perfect blend of casual chic with a healthy dose of elegance. They make a room more causal but always still look sophisticated. I had it in my old home and have it in my present home, in my guest room.
As I am still considering the reupholstery of my breakfast room chairs I am thinking of going with a French-y feeling floral on one side and a buffalo check on the other. I find myself continuously drawn to them. So today is all about buffalo checks, if you have not been a fan, this may change your mind and if you are fan, this will remind you why:)

Love the look of all these checks – especially the green – gorgeous. I have been looking for a large yellow & white check in a heavy cotton or silk – any suggestions?
Love the buffalo checks. My favorite is the red but the blue is fantastic also. Charles Faudree was my favorite designer. I especially loved how he decorated his many homes and have kept many of the magazines he was featured in. I am looking forward to seeing your finished room and the choice you made.
I am going to be doing taupe and cream buffalo check and toile in my guest bedroom. It is such a classic look!
Can’t wait to see how your breakfast room chairs come out when you finally decide on a fabric. They will no doubt be fabulous!
I adore buffalo check. I would have it in every room if I could. That and toile are my absolute favorites!! So loved today’s post! Look forward to seeing your finished designs! ( You could really use some buffalo check in PB in a pretty aqua or watery blue!!!!)

I considered buffalo checks when we built our home. Someone told me it was too casual. I wish you had been my designer. I have always regretted not using them. Thank you for this lovely post! I see some changes in the future of my decor.
I want to pin so many of these pictures! I hope we are able to do it soon. Love the buffalo checks, and you have proven that they are lovely in any color.
They make the room look all beautiful and looks good aesthetically. They aren’t casual at all. They can be used in a variety of ways, its all about how you place something and present it, in our opinion. http://www.mikechancehomes.com
Hello Tina, wonderful photos as always!
The buffalo check is so smart and chic, but looks friendly too! so easy to live with.
Your Blog is a joy to read…problem though, the photos from the last few don’t
have the Pinterest icon, so cannot pin from the beautiful images. Hope it’s only a slight glitch.
Looking forward to seeing the updates of the new house.
Don’t live in America…. sad I cannot benefit from all the splendid Chinoiserie!
All best wishes.
Paula.
Hi Tina we own a beach home in Naples and I used a pale blue buffalo check in my living room and dining room with solid creams and it is so pretty and refreshing, even 7 years later I still love it and when I walk in the door. Loved this post and like you, I feel like I want to redo a few rooms here in my own home in Philadelphia, a home is never done!
Here is a list of some my favorite Blue/Cream Checks – but most go toward the ‘French Blue’ color way – not navy.
Vervain-Charles Faudree – Biron Check -CF- 05
Thibaut -Netherlands Check- W8307/blue
Lee Jofa – Indra Check: Indigo -2006146-50
Colfax & Fowler – Belgrave Check – Vintage Blue – F3001-15
And while not a ‘classic buffalo check’ Brunschwig & Fils Crozon Check/Blue Cream -BR-89036-M20 is really really fabulous!
Schumacher does have a very nice buffalo check called ‘Camden Cotton Check – Indigo 63039’ which is nice and there is also ‘Key West Check-Navy 68015’ which is dark navy and white.
Have Fun and remember ‘Good Design is Good for the Soul’
I love this post, a master class on the many uses of a fabric that by itself is overlooked, but skillfully added to a decorating scheme has so much impact. Thank you for making me look at this in a new light.
I love buffalo checks. There is something so fresh about adding some here and there. My husband hates them so I have always been sparing in my own home. The Charles Faudree check is one I use a lot. The colors are endless. Pretty post!
I love the post and love Buffalo checks. I love all the fabrics you posted at the end of the post, especially, the second fabric. Can you tell me who the manufacturer is on that fabric?

Anyone out there have a source for navy/cream or off white buffalo check upholstery fabric? Been looking for YEARS!
Love the look of all these checks – especially the green – gorgeous. I have been looking for a large yellow & white check in a heavy cotton or silk – any suggestions?

Love the checks.
And , I loved everything Charles Faudree designed. So sad, he has passed.
Thanking you for this past. Beautiful.
I also enjoy the comforting casual look of the buffalo plaid……..it is so welcoming. There is a “brother” windowpane plaid that works for me also.
The tablecloth & pillow combination of buffalo plaid is just perfect for a simple change out.
Tina, I think you are on the right track for your chairs…….am anxious to see your finial combination.
I just had blue and white buffalo check pillows and table topper made for my screen porch. Fabric is by Magnolia love it
I LOVE buffalo checks too. Adds the perfect ‘casually elegant’ touch to almost any room.
I am going to be doing taupe and cream buffalo check and toile in my guest bedroom. It is such a classic look!
