Hi everyone, it is Memorial Day weekend and to everyone but particularly  all who have served and their families, we thank you. The sacrifice these service men and women make,  is to me the ultimate and one I personally think of often, so thank you for your service and dedication to our country.  Time to announce the winner of the tole planter giveaway. Congratulations goes to-

To any retailers that read the blog I announced very excitedly the launch of my wholesale site, this was a big achievement which I am thrilled has happened. You can register by clicking on picture below or here.

Hope you are having a good one, for us it’s been relaxing so far.  Dinner with good friends last night,  was supposed to go boating later today (weather permitting which is not looking good) and possibly tomorrow will do a casual BBQ at our house, first of the season!

Unfortunately our weather forecast is mixed and between today and tomorrow calling for periods of rain so we will make the best of it:) I never complain about having an unexpected rainy day as it often feels like a free pass to make it a lazy, “stay at home and be productive” kind of day (and that may include some online shopping to take advantage of Memorial Day sales.

Hope whatever you are up to is fun and relaxing. In celebration of Memorial Day weekend I am offering 20% SITE WIDE starting today through tomorrow at midnight (use code memorial) . Almost all of our best selling items that were all out of stock have come back in, so it’s a great time to treat yourself to something you have had your eye on.

Here we go with my Seven on Sunday…

1 NATURE COMING TO LIFE AROUND HERE This time of year I fall in love with nature all over again. When we returned from Palmetto Bluff, our yard had suddenly come to life, it was greener than I ever remember it and fuller. It was such a welcome sight. So it prompted me to start with my flowers, I am not big on colored flowers for our yard but love pure white against the green. I am not done but here is how its looking so far…..so miss seeing everything so green!

Love any yard at dusk, my favorite time of the day-

2. INSTAGRAMS OF INTEREST Wow I love my roundup this week, it reminds me of why I love summer so much and it gets me excited to spend lots of time outdoors over the next few months.  So much beauty-

My favorite this week is this picture because this just makes my heart happy….spectacular!

3. A VEGE DISH YOU WILL LOVE With our lifestyle of much healthier eating, I have been looking for lots of recipes to incorporate into our daily meals. I have found a few recently that to my surprise were really tasty and surely did not feel like I was sacrificing anything. This quinoa and vegetable dish is actually really delicious, either as a main or a side dish. Really good! Found at Insightful Bite, click here to visit.

Ingredients
  • 1½ cups cooked quinoa
  • 1 14 oz. can chickpeas, cooked and drained
  • 1 zucchini, diced small
  • 1 red bell pepper, diced small
  • ½ a red onion, diced small
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • ½ teaspoon oregano
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • generous pinch of black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (optional)
  • Additional tablespoon of olive oil (optional)
  • 2 teaspoons of fresh lemon juice, about ¼ of a lemon (optional)
Instructions
  1. Cook quinoa according to package directions. I like to salt the water for a more flavourful outcome.
  2. While quinoa is cooking, preheat oven to 400 degrees fahrenheit and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. Drain and rinse chickpeas and add them to a large mixing bowl. Chop all vegetables and add them to the bowl as well.
  4. Add 1 tablespoon olive oil and the seasonings (salt, basil, oregano, onion powder, garlic powder, and pinch of pepper) to the bowl with the veggies and toss until evenly coated. Pour onto the lined baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes.
  5. Once the veggies and quinoa are done, combine them in a serving dish, add fresh parsley, lemon juice and additional olive oil if desired. Season to taste with salt and pepper, and serve warm.

4. ONE FABULOUS HOME Saw this in Atlanta Home magazine and knew I had to share. The entire home appeals to my aesthetic, it is classically beautiful and timeless yet feels current and welcoming. A few things I might change but overall it is a most gracious and beautiful home. Click here to see/read more.

5. BEST FILLER FLOWERS As many of us begin to spruce up our yards and patios, me included,  I want to share with you some of my most favorite plants for maximum blooming and fullness (some of you have asked).

First off,  I almost always buy baskets, they are already fuller and are easy peasy to just plant in the ground. They also work beautifully to plant directly into planters. I only buy the flats or small 4″ pots if I want to plant them in or around larger plants like boxwoods in planters. Some of my most favorites are-

Calibrachoa, love this with planters because the flowers are smaller and it blooms constantly, a great “base filler” for planters-

Supertunias these offer so much bang for the buck. They constantly flower and are brilliant in whatever color you buy, these are beautiful in planers and the ground

New Guinea impatiens, beautiful lush foliage against a large bright flower, these too are wonderful in the ground or in planter and are very hardy.

6. MY TALENTED CUSTOMERS/READERS. So love getting your pictures! We always add them to the online gallery as it’s a great place to see our products in action and how they are used, they often give our readers great ideas (and I have certainly gotten a few of my own) so keep them coming…..if you have a product picture you want to share please email it to info@enchantedhome.com. Click here to see our entire customer gallery, so proud:)

7. SUNDAY’S SURVEY. So I was talking to a group of friends about kids growing up today vs when we grew up and we all agreed, there is no way that we would want to be a kid in today’s world (all except one). I know for me, I loved when I grew up and wouldn’t change that for anything even though we didn’t have social media and all the conveniences and gadgets that today’s kids do.

To me technology, instant gratification and social media are all a double edged sword. I feel bad for kids today who don’t know what its like to wait and want for something. Everything is too accessible and at their fingertips a bit too conveniently. I always use the example of when we went away on vacation, we really went away. No phones, no one knew where we were, what we ate, what we wore (as they do now through social media) and it was always so exciting returning home to call up friends and family, run to CVS to develop our pictures (yep remember those days)! So…….regardless of when you were born, would you rather have been born now or when you were born? This should be interesting…….

Raining here too, so I am using it as day to continue with a few projects I have going on in my house and will pray for the sun to come out later. Lovely lovely post, Tina. I love these Seven on Sundays, thank you for the heads up on filler flowers, it was very timely as we are just starting to add flowers to our yard, this was very helpful. Your yard looks so beautiful and so green.
Going to try the quinoa, my husband is a vegan so I welcome any thing new to try! Have a nice Sunday.

Tina, I love your blog and everything it has to offer..But, please, no ‘happy’ Memorial Day.. Please don’t say that. As the wife of a veteran, it makes me wince. This weekend is to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. We honor those who gave all. We don’t celebrate Memorial Day; we observe it. I realize that it is the ‘unofficial’ start of summer and many of us celebrate the ‘beginning of summer’ with picnics and barbecues, but the overall theme is to remember and offer respect to those who gave us the opportunity to continue as we do: in freedom. Thanks..

Always look forward to your Sunday post and your favorite things. Also the pictures of your beautiful home and the times you show us, you playing in it. Yes playing as I have the most fun ever playing in mine.
In our nice neighborhood we all watch out for the children which is a very necessary thing these days. However when I was growing up mom sent us outside to play and we didn’t show back up until meal time.
She wasn’t in the least bit worried about us as we had listened to her warnings about all kinds of animals and dangers which never included humans, The humans we came in contact with were just as eager to keep us safe as our parents, and when we crossed an unwritten code our parents were told and we were admonished and sometimes punished depending on the wrong we had done. Our parents never became angry at the neighbor but was thankful for their intervention. Never, ever, would I wish to be a child now as our world has changed in so many ways that what was right is now wrong and what was wrong is how
right.

Beautiful post (as always). Hope your plans work out, really enjoyed this, way better and much more uplifting than our Sunday paper!

Love your posts. I hate seeing young kids on their phones all the time. And with an earpiece. See families out to dinner or lunch and each child has an I pad or phone. My grandkids are not being raised like this. They do chores and maybe get half hour of screen time. And they actually talk to us. So proud of them

Gorgeous post, I am 51 and would not want to be growing up in today’s world/culture. I have twins who are 14 and a 16 year old son and it pains me to see how much they rely on social media, phones, ipads, etc…..it is really sad for this generation.

We grew up in a much more innocent time and like you said there was great pleasure in wanting and actually waiting for something, it was nice for their to be surprises and not know everything because it is online. I don’t know what the future holds.

Lovely post as always, your lush yard makes me want to go out and garden!

Oh Tina… your flowers look so gorgeous. Great tips, too. Love that Atlanta home and always enjoy your Insta pics. I showed the Mr. the last post that you did on your PB house. He went crazy over all your choices especially your rugs. We’re having a wet, cold day here. I hear the couch and TV calling my name. Enjoy your Memorial Day!!

So much great information here, the quinoa sounds really good! i am going to try it, do you serve it warm or cold? I love that you included your favorite flowers for fillers, I needed that as I am always so confused when I visit my local nursery. I have about 8 planters to fill so thank you.
I like you, am very happy I was born and raised in the 60’s, I pity today’s youth, they have no idea how much better things were when they not instantly accessible. Can we reverse the hands of time! My sister is a psychiatrist and even she is even astounded at how many kids are suffering from anxiety, depression, isolation, etc…..which she almost totally blames on social media. Hope your rain goes away soon!

When are you starting to sell wholesale? I have a shop in Charleston and am very interested.
Thanks

Always look forward to your Sunday posts.
Even though we are getting lots of rain in the NYC area I’m kind of enjoying this unexpected cool quiet day.

Felt the very same about the Atlanta Homes House. Saved every picture to my Pinterest board.

I also love Seven on Sunday! After participating in your questionnaire, I wanted to share an observation from my grandson’s 5th birthday party last weekend. My husband and I were there to attend and it was nice to meet 2 other sets of grandparents who came too. None of us knew each other since we were all from different towns. During the birthday party which was at a karate studio there were instructors doing fun activities for about 1 hour. As I looked around most of the parent’s who were in their 30’s were sitting reading their phone, going through facebook, and instagram, while us grandparents who did not know each other were all talking and learning more about each other. It was obvious the difference in generations!
