Hi and happy Sunday, hope you are having a nice weekend. Ours was fun, went out Friday and Saturday with friends and it was really enjoyable. Today we are supposed to be heading into the city, but by the time I get back, I will so look forward to putting on my lounge clothes, sit back and watch a good movie or two. I really like my lazy Sundays!
It was a stressful work week as there are massive delays and major interruptions in the supply china, our containers are taking much longer to get here and I just found out that my container with the eggs and bunnies is not going to be where until later March. I had almost come to terms with the huge price increases in shipping but these delays are super stressful. To say I have lost more than a few nights sleep over this is a major understatement. So that put a damper on things for sure. Crossing my fingers and saying a prayer for a miracle.
Anywho, onto more pleasant subjects, my post this Sunday. Hope you enjoy it…….

1 BANANAS FOSTER ANYONE? I hope you are not reading this on an empty stomach, because this was soooooo outrageously good. I cannot explain just how crazy good this is. This is one of those desserts, if offered in a restaurant will always trump any other. It is so decadently good. So one day I tried to make it at home and not only was it quite simple but it rivaled any I have had in any restaurant. My guests were very impressed and this is now going to be my “go to” dessert when I make one. Generally someone brings something over or I pick something up at one of the many wonderful bakeries in our area.
Here is what you need to do-
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
4 bananas, cut in half lengthwise, then halved (better when they are just slightly underripe)
1/4 cup dark rum (I used a bit less)
1/4 cup banana liqueur (optional as I have made it both ways)
4 scoops vanilla ice cream (has to be Haagen Daz)
Combine the butter, sugar, and cinnamon in a flambé pan or skillet.
Place the pan over low heat either on an alcohol burner or on top of the stove, and cook, stirring, until the sugar dissolves.
Stir in the banana liqueur, then place the bananas in the pan.
When the banana sections soften and begin to brown, carefully add the rum.
Continue to cook the sauce until the rum is hot, then tip the pan slightly to ignite the rum.
When the flames subside, lift the bananas out of the pan and place four pieces over each portion of ice cream.
Generously spoon warm sauce over the top of the ice cream and serve immediately.
2 A LITTLE SNEAK PEEK INTO SPRING AND A GREAT HYDRANGEA TIP Just love this beautiful soft pink and green palette. We will be getting wicker pagodas in green, natural, white and pale blue. Cabbage plates will be here in April in pale pink, green, blue and we will restock the pieces of the white and dark green that we are out of (and we are finally getting soup bowls)!
These beautiful linens, we are down to the last of, and don’t forget as we are phasing out of our beautiful hand blocked linens, they are all 40% off! Click here to see and use code linens
And to anyone who has experienced WHS (wilted hydrangea syndrome:) this works every time-
Meet Mr Wilty many would think he needs to go right into the garbage. WRONG.
Give him a fresh cut at a sharp angle, then cut INTO the stem as well.
Get a small vase of glass of VERY hot water (almost boiling) stick Mr Wilty in and come back na few hours…
And just like that Mr Wilty was able to rejoin his other flowery friends
3 INSTAGRAMS OF INTEREST Such a beautiful and inspiring round up this week!
.
4 A BEAUTIFULLY CURATED BEACH COTTAGE I fell in love with this beautifully curated beach cottage. It is a perfect blend of sophistication and elevated casual. I really love her aesthetic. Its not beach/coastal kitschy at all, but just a beautifully done beach home.
5 SNEAK PEEK AT OUR FABULOUS TOLE EGG COLLECTION, WICKER BUNNIES AND 32″ JUMBO WICKER GINGER JARS! I am overjoyed with this 2024 collection..and now very nervous about their arrival. They are on the way, but the trade routes for container shipping right now are crazy. There are many delays, so these will be here in 3-4 weeks tops. I am planning all kinds of pretty egg an bunny vignette with fresh spring flowers. I could not love it more and just praying that its here on time!
We will hold a presale on this collection next week so stay tuned….
6 ESTATE SALE ANYONE? I am pretty sure we all know the thrill of stumbling across a really great estate/tag sale. I have not been to one in a very long time. But the last, I did, they were both amazing. One was in Greenwich and I walked away with a few treasures. Then the other was the Oleg Cassini estate and there too, I scored a few amazing finds plus it was so much fun to go through his entire estate of beauty mixed in with so much history.
They really can be fun! So, a friend of mine who lives in CT. recently got the deal of a lifetime on a huge (and gorgeous) set of Royal Crown Derby china. She told me about a website that lists all the sales happening in your area (by zip code). Maybe I am the last to know this but thought it was worth sharing. Click here to visit Find Estate Sales.
7 SUNDAY’S SEVEN Magazines..remember those? I have seen magazine aisles shrink to almost oblivion. I still love getting my hands on a really good issue (almost always a home/design magazine) but they are far and few between. The last time I bought a few at about $8-9 each was at the airport and truth is I went through them both in just minutes. It’s sad because like bookstores, everyone seems to have gone the way of digital. I still love them and will not hesitate to buy them if it looks like a good issue. How about you? Check all that apply.
And that is a wrap! If you missed my recap post on the previous post about blogging, you might want to read the good news (click here). I was touched by all of the wonderful and encourage comments and happy as well, that things are staying as they are. On that note, wishing everyone a great day, until next time…..
Tina, my dear sweet father always made Banana Foster table side for special occasions at my parents home. I have such fond memories of this. How much banana liqueur do you suggest? I was so blessed,my father lived until 97.
Love, waking up on Sunday mornings and getting to read your post. Everything is so beautiful, love all of your new spring products and eggs, cannot wait to order.!
look forward to watching the house tour video.
I love magazines but not only have they doubled in price, they are half the size so I very rarely purchase them.
What a “Beach Cottage!!!!” I am “babbling”…she is…a “breath of fresh air!!” Honestly!! Oh, & my “subscriptions” are my friends…I visit them over & over. What a TREAT this was!!! TY!! franki
That hydrangea trick really works! If you don’t have success on the first go round, empty the water, add in fresh hot water and let it go another few hours. I saved a couple that seemed beyond redemption, just took a couple tries 🙂 Also, the new cabbage dinnerware is divine. Want some in ALL the colors.
I’m late reading yesterday’s Sunday Post, but glad to have read through it. I loved The beach house tour. She is incredibly talented. So many wonderful ideas. The entry Mural is divine.
Thank you so much for sharing the estate sale guide—can’t wait to delve in to it and pass it a long to my family and friends.
Going to try the Bananas Foster recipe too, it is honestly a favorite of mine.
I’m Saying a prayer that the shipment arrives soon—the egg collection is so pretty. All the best to you and yours,
Fanny
I still receive three magazine subscriptions . I absolutely love when they come in the mail. I make myself a cup of tea and give myself about half an hour to sit and go through one of them. I clip pages of inspiration and file them in folders room by room. I’m hoping to build a new (downsize) house and I will have all my ideas in order for my architect. I find design has moved in a more modern, eclectic direction but still enjoy seeing these pages come to life. That’s why I love this blog so much, its more my style.
