We are thrilled and look forward to celebrating their life together in the months ahead.  One down, two to go:) We are getting together to discuss plans, what they have in mind, etc….to be continued.

So that was the big excitement around here this week. Ok onward we go to my post this weekend…….

1 OUR BEAUTIFUL LACQUERED TRAYS AND BAMBOO PLANTERS I love our new lacquered scalloped trays and am finding that they are so versatile. I think will use them a lot this summer too.

Also smitten with our newest metal bamboo planters in round and square. Didn’t realize how much I like them until I brought two home, they are fabulous and come with a removable liner. I love them with our faux kalanchoe but think they are beautiful for an orchid too, which I will be adding very soon. Today and tomorrow ALL planters are 25% off (see bottom of this post)

I

I am going to look to bring back these pretty blue and white pots above as several of you asked. Hoping for summer!

2 A GREAT VIDEO ON KITCHEN IDEAS I really enjoyed many of the beautiful ideas here. I am always taking notes on kitchen ideas as hopefully I will soon join the ranks of those starting a kitchen renovation, cannot happen a day too soon!

3 INSTAGRAMS OF INTEREST Never at a loss of such beauty and inspiration to share…..

4 A DELICIOUS AND EASY STEAK KEBOB RECIPE Saw this on social media and it looked so darn good, I made it and it was a hit! Will absolutely be made often especially as this warmer months approach. Easy to throw on the BBQ!

  • ½ cup low sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoons honey
  • 2 green onions thinly sliced
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • ½ tablespoon fresh ginger grated or minced
  • 1 pound sirloin steak cubed (or your favorite cut of beef)
  • 1 onion chopped into large pieces
  • Combine soy sauce, vegetable oil, lemon juice, honey, green onions, garlic and ginger in a large zippered bag.
  • Add the steak cubes and marinate 4-6 hours (or overnight which I did)
  • Preheat the grill to medium-high heat. Alternate meat and one slice of onion onto skewers. (If you are using wooden skewers, be sure to soak them 30 minutes first.)
  • Grill for 10 to 12 minutes (or until desired doneness), turning occasionally.

5 TOO SOON TO TALK CHRISTMAS?  I know, it seems insane but with the tremendous lag in shipping times, big price increases and extended production times,  we are already planning for holiday 2024. And when I show you these samples,  I think you just might understand how easy it was to get excited about these:) We will be adding some beautiful new collections to our ornaments this year and I promise you they will be magnificent! Here’s a little sneak peek at some samples-

6 WHO WATCHED ONE DAY? So I kept hearing about this series over and over. I finally decided to watch it and admittedly the first 2 episodes, it felt like a light romcom, I wasn’t fully committed. However by the third episode, there was a shift and the bottom line is I binge watched 8 episodes in one night. And cried myself to sleep.

There were so many compelling and meaningful takeaways. I don’t want to give too much away but highly recommend it for all ages! The acting was superb and I would watch it over again in a heartbeat.

7 SUNDAY’S SURVEY So not sure how many would agree with me, maybe its my own hangup. But I went to a seafood store the other day, I normally go to one further away but this one is closer and I was in a rush. The first off putting thing was how “smelly” it was! I get it, seafood smells but this was really bad. The other place I go to does not have any smell, they must have installed some kind of powerful air filtration system (so appropriate for a seafood shop).

I see what I want and he picks the fish up with his bare hands, is handling it that way, puts it on the scale, cuts it and wraps it up with his bare hand. Something about it really repulsed me. I mean is putting on a pair of thin gloves such a big deal. I actually thought it was required!  I looked it up and it is not however around here many places do use gloves the handle food. I thought for a seafood shop in particular they would. I left feeling very underwhelmed to cook this dinner but the upside is that the fish came out great.

Just curious if this would have bothered you? Mind you, this is coming from a serial hand washer who never leaves home without a spray sanitizer. Your hands can never be too clean in my book:) I am kind of fanatical about super clean hands when preparing food, especially raw and it was just a surprise to me.

Good morning, I also love those new lacquer trays and bought two of them. They are so beautiful. Now I feel like them. I need the bamboo planter.!

Oh those ornaments are incredible. Thank you for the recipe. I’ve enjoyed so many of your recipes this one looks easy and sounds delicious.

I am a stickler for hygiene, particularly when a food server is preparing some thing, so I personally would have asked that he wear gloves, and if he said no, I would have walked out. even if it’s not mandated by the state, I think all food service should wear disposable gloves.

Lovely post Tina. I’m still reeling from reading Tim Corrigan’s post today. I bet Sofia Vergara never mentioned to her new designer that Tim worked extensively on the house. AD is issuing a statement in next months issue. I wonder how many designers have gotten screwed like this? Terrible!

I forgot to add I LOVE those ornaments so pretty! I don’t go to a fish market if they aren’t wearing gloves.

Thank you for posting about the fish! Even sometimes the gloves they wear seem dirty if they don’t put on fresh pair or butcher wipes his face, I will walk away without ordering. Wish I weren’t this way and wasn’t bothered!!

As a retired hygienist, I am extra sensitive to all food handling “techniques”! Especially disturbing is watching (any) food handler who may, in fact, wear gloves but proceeds to grab a mop, or garbage, or pencil, sponge( whatever!) and return to the food wearing the same nasty gloves! Totally uneducated re: cross contamination!

Thank you, Tina!
And congrats!
Love Christmas….
and today’s visual treats.
Plus, the recipe…YUM!!

Just commenting on the gloves when dealing with food. Gloves are great when changed after every use. Even then the gloves have been handled. I’ve seen gloves used and then either money or machines touched and gloves not changed. I think gloves can be a feel good thing.
A good wash with soap in between is best method.

For me it’s never to early to talk about Christmas. Such lovely new additions to your already beautiful collections for Christmas .

You’ve hit on my biggest pet peeve, no gloves! I wear gloves at home ALL the time when I am preparing food. And another one is not wearing hair back and beard masks in food industry, drives me nuts. I would have walked out of the shop on the smell alone. I read many years ago that fish shops should not have a strong smell.

I’m with you regarding wearing gloves when handling food. Not wearing gloves also increases the risk of food poisoning. I certainly wouldn’t go back there in the future based on your experience even if the food turned out good. I’m fanatical about washing my hands, especially when I’m cooking, so the thoughts of anyone touching my food without gloves is definitely repulsive!

I forgot to comment on the beautiful Christmas Ornaments. I really like the look of the new ones you’ve designed for this year. I might have to design my tree around them this year!

I’m probably in the minority here, but… those rubber gloves are a bane on the environment, and I would prefer that they are NOT worn. Plus, if they’re latex, some people are allergic to them. When I buy something that’s been handled, I wash it when I get home, and I honestly can’t remember the last time I got sick.
