This is somewhat behind as I had intended to post this a few weeks ago -so, over the next few renovation posts I will bring you all up to speed!
Hello everyone, I hope this finds you well! I figured it was time for a renovation update since so much has happened over the past couple of weeks. If you follow me on Instagram, you probably know that we have finally fully moved out of our house. Let me just say—it felt like a Herculean feat. I’m not looking for sympathy, but I truly forgot how physically, emotionally, and mentally exhausting moving can be. And let’s not even talk about how much I had accumulated over the years—it honestly felt like a never-ending cycle of discovering yet another closet I had forgotten to empty.
The silver lining? The opportunity to donate so much, knowing that it’s going to good homes where it will be used and appreciated. That always makes the chaos feel a little more worthwhile.
As for the house itself, it is now officially boarded up and being completely gutted—except for the foyer, living room, dining room, sunroom, and library, which will remain intact. It’s surreal to see it in this state, but also exciting to finally move forward with the renovation.
As if that wasn’t enough, we also had five moving truck trips back and forth to the house where we’ll be living for the next year to year and a half. My husband and I are both the type who need to settle in quickly—neither of us can stand living among boxes—so we worked ourselves to the bone to get everything in order. Some nights, I could barely make it up the stairs to bed! But I’m happy to say the dust has settled, and we’re finally feeling at home here. There’s still plenty to go through, and some things have gone into storage since we won’t need them during this transition, but overall, we’ve done a great job making this house feel comfortable in just a week and a half.
I’m tweaking little things here and there every day, but I’m also reminding myself not to overdo it—because, let’s be real, I’m not 30 anymore. The one thought that kept me going through this exhausting process? That this is our second-to-last move. The next one will be our final, very mindful, and very curated move.
I joked a while ago that this is a two-for-one experience—not only will I be sharing the renovation of our home, but I’ll also be sharing small tweaks and improvements we’re making to our temporary house. So for the next few weeks, expect a mix of both. And once the renovation really gets underway, we’ll shift our focus more to that—including all the exciting design decisions to come.
But enough talking—let me show you the empty house as it stands!
Everything in the dining room all take down and getting packed up
Still love the bamboo wallpaper hall where the linen closet is!
How pretty are these doors? Some were donated
Bedrooms getting emptied one at a time amazing how much was stuffed into the closets and drawers! Almost all window treatments we saved except for a few we donated
5th and final moving truck!
Love my bedroom, its filled with light and a beautiful view. This will not change much except we are vaulting eh ceiling and changing the windows
One final corner with my desk and chair…last things to go
I used to wear a lot of turquoise and coral (still love it) forgot how much I had, was kind of fun discovering some pieces I forgot about, great for summer!
And this my friends is the pink capsule I had to live in for 2 years….this take pinks to a whole new level:) Suffice to say cannot wait to have a beautiful white bathroom! The beautiful small lantern, which was there for many many years is so pretty, so much so that I have a sample of it being made!
Now, like I had said earlier this is somewhat outdated as we moved into the new house about 3 weeks ago so my next post will be an update on the house we will call. home for the next year or so and then in a few weeks I will start posting about my vision for our renovated house, as we have a lot of decisions to make on the horizon. We are happy to be settling into the “temporary house” and I imagine things will feel a bit less hectic as we finish setting in here so that we fully focus 100% on our big project aka our forever home.
Thanks for stopping in. If you have questions related to this, please answer them in the comments section below. I get a lot of emails and not always able to get to them but will answer your questions diredtly here on this post Thanks for stopping in. Wishing everyone a wonderful day!
SECOND DAY OF OUR AMAZING ETCHED GLASS WAREHOUSE BLOWOUT SALE
I love our Mom’s necklace in her picture. Have you ever thought of having it copied? It is so lovely and I think many people would love to have one just like it!!
So excited to see this reno get underway. You are an amazing and energetic person! I got tired just watching all the packing. I am moving next year so will follow your lead. I like your attitude, very positive.
The home has such beautiful bones. Its going to be such fun to follow along and I also LOVE turquoise and coral
Everything is beautiful even as a “pretty mess”. This is going to be fun! I can relate to the endless closet surprises, went through it about 5 years ago and scratched my head daily wondering how I accumulated so. much. Like you, gave a lot way. Felt good.
Your pink bathroom is beautiful. I know you are getting rid of it but my feeling is that a BOLD WALLPAPER makes all the difference in a room. Think about adding GREEN to your home. Even if it is a green Chinoiserie mirror from CHAIRISH.
Hi Tina
Everything looks exhausting! I’m sure the renovation work make the house even more grand than it is already ! What a beautiful place to call your forever home!! I’m sad to see the pink bathroom go ! Thank you soooo much for sharing this post! Back in 2020 @ the height of the COVID outbreak I had a home flood. I was in a hotel for 7 months. During that time I lost my baby sister right when I was moving back home! 13 months later I had another major home flood and during that timeframe I lost my baby brother. To say my home was a mess was an understatement ! Your posted pictures just gave verification that my situation was shared by a special “community of movers”. I too, have similar photos. You have given me the drive and impetus to shake myself out of this entropy and continue to positively move forward as a testament and legacy to my loved ones. Bless you for sharing your reality and motivating me to complete my home decor “mission”!
Tina, I adore the ceiling lantern in the pink bathroom . When you have a reproduction made please make it available for purchase. Good luck on the renovation.
