Good morning, everyone! I had started this post a while ago, and every time I tried to get back to it, something came up. But I finally chose a rainy afternoon to sit down and finish it.
A lot has happened since my last update, which was more focused on our move. I’m thrilled to share that the parts of the house that were being taken down are fully down—and the new sections have now been completely framed! The roof is currently being sealed, and we’re hoping the actual roof itself will arrive within the month. That’ll be an exciting milestone!
Having built a few homes before, I know all too well that the framing phase moves fast and makes you feel like you’re ahead of the game—but then reality sets in. The slower part begins (slow as molasses) all the behind-the-scenes work like adding the mechanical. It may not be the most thrilling phase, but it’s real progress, and it means we’re getting closer.
With the ever-changing import/export tariff landscape, we’re being encouraged to start placing orders now, as prices are quickly climbing. So, I’ve begun gathering ideas for the kitchen, bathrooms, and beyond. But do not want to feel rushed or make any hasty decisions. Thankfully our taste does not waver, we know what we like and what we like tends to be more classic and timeless. So not much deviation in terms of our taste, just steering it a little bit more to being on the water (softer color palette, etc…)
First, I want to share some photos of our construction progress—and then starting next week, I’ll begin sharing some of the design inspiration I’m collecting (a part I truly love!) and to me the most fun part!
If you have ever wondered what the ‘guts” of a 100 year old house look like, here you go! The people working on it said they were very impressed with how it has stood the test of time. Out with the old and in with the new….
It was fun to see we can add a fireplace to the future breakfast room (below)
Above is part of breakfast room
VERY old floorboards and the original subway tile that was “hiding” behind another tile! If these walls could speak….
Scaffolding above is future family room
This to me is the most exciting room (so far) our future family room, we are doing it very similar to our old family room but in lighter colors
These were cool but a little eerie at the same time….I was not there for the take down of this part of the house but this was midstream
Slate roof choices we went with the darker (on left)
We have a cupola being installed…that was an exciting step.
2nd day of our fabulous tabletop/wicker/glass presale! If you haven’t checked it out, click here…its a good one!

Hope you enjoyed this post and seeing the progress. At times it feels very slow but the last 2 weeks it felt like we had actually made a lot of progress. I realize and know full well, having done this a number of times, the “slow” stage starts now. But I am being patient, somehow, knowing this is our final forever home….makes it a little easier. Plus the fun part is around the corner, starting to plan interiors, kitchen, baths, etc…stay tuned! Much more to come. Until next time……
Just so exciting Tina! My husband and I were in the renovation business. Original flippers. I so enjoyed doing it most times. We would purchase a home which needed help, purchase it, move in, renovated it, flipped it and move onto the next one. It also helped that we both were realtors and was the first to know when the house hit the listing market. We are now in our 80’s and all that is over. Your renovation is like eye candy to me and I totally enjoy your sharing your timeline with all of us. It’s in my blood. I still love it.
Love to see the progress of your home renovation! I find it so exciting to witness. I have done a few on a much smaller scale but appreciated the creativity involved. Your home will be stunning. Congratulations!
Whia…your new home looks FABULOUS!! WAY to go!!
We installed cupolas on our cabin, boat house garage, gazebo AND, last but not least “She/He” shed. Copper octagon roof & antique blue ball on lightning rods on each. FINISHED!! franki
Love seeing the renovation. I hope the new construction will last as long as the old construction for future family. Wood today is not as good as old wood for some reason. We have done alot of building over the years and the wood is not that good no matter where we purchased. Our home now is 65yrs old and you can barely drive a nail but new edition it’s easy to drive a nail. We have cupolas on house and buildings with copper tops with spheres it just adds architecture.
It’s very warm and loving that you post your mother’s photo after each blog entry. Makes me smile. As did the photos of your past fur baby Teddy. Is it possible to add Teddy’s photo back to the blog listings? After all they are both dear to your heart. We recently lost our precious Daisy. She was a
10 1/2 year old Boxer. She got sick unexpectedly / she had kidney disease that was not found until days before she passed. Our hearts were broken. I love remembering our fur babies as they are family and a big part of us.

Will this house be larger than than your old house?
I love how the view of the water is framed in the new family room windows.
Very exciting. Can’t wait to see the finished rooms. Love all the large windows.
