1 LOVE FOR LACQUER I have been looking a lot at lacquer inspiration. We have a small library at the house and I want to lacquer it as I know it will look so beautiful and I am set on it. I am so torn between a rich navy, a soft blue/gray or a soft taupe. Leaning towards the blue/gray but I came across this picture from a library I did for a client in NYC about 7 years ago and it stopped me in my tracks. I love this room so much! It sure makes a strong argument for navy!

2 NEW MUST MAKE RECIPE I saw this on Tiktok from a cook I follow and this looked so good that I had to make it. And let me tell you, these were off the charts delicious. SO SO GOOD. We love Mediterranean food and if you do too, you must try these. Easy to make, just requires some  chopping. So here is what you need and how you do it-

WHAT YOU NEED-

1.5 lbs hamburger meat

1 med red onion very finely chopped

3/4 cup very finely chopped parsley

4 garlic cloves very finely chopped

Spices- cumin, paprika, cardamon, a sprinkle of cinnamon

6 kirby cucumbers very finely chopped

ripe tomatoes about 1.5 cups very finely chopped

Olive oil

Kosher salt and pepper

Dried dill just a sprinkle for yogurt sauce

Dried mint (or fresh) just a few TBSP

(Optional but so good) Yogurt sauce -3/4 cup of yogurt, 3-4 Tbsp of fresh chopped mint or dried, a sprinkle of dried dill, olive oil, salt and pepper. Mix together, add a few dollops over cooked pita

TO MAKE-

In a mixing bowl, add hamburger meat, all spices about half of the chopped parsley, 3/4 of the chopped red onion and garlic. Mix well. Set aside. Take pita breads and carefully slice them sideways to create to flat pitas. Take your mixture and push into the pita to make sort of a flat pancake shape. In the meantime, you should have a sautee pan with oil nice and hot, put meat side down, cooks really fast about 4 minutes (since its so thin) You can cook bread side down for a minute if you choose.

Tomato salad-add tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, a few TBSP of red onion, rest of parsley, olive oil, kosher salt and pepper. Mix well and set aside.

Lay flat on a plate and scoop a generous amount of the salad over it and the yogurt. Fold it like a taco or you can eat flat with fork and knife, be ready to indulge in something extra delish!

The finished product, you fold it up like a taco to eat or you can eat flat with a fork and knife.

3 INSTAGRAMS OF INTEREST A gorgeous roundup this weekend, spring is in the air!

4 SPRING TOWEL REPLENISHMENT One thing I really need to replenish is towels!  Spoke about this a few weeks ago. I literally am throwing away most of our towels (well using them as cleaning rags) they are that old! We have had many for too long and they need replacing. I bought a few different sets recently to try and these are the ones I like so far. Two were a bust and I returned them but these two sets I do like and kept.

Love this scalloped set more for me than my husband (click here)

And these are really nice too, very fluffy and soft (click here)

5 TAKE ME THERE! This video just took my breath away a I am big on virtual vacations when I need a little decompresse for my soul! I have been to Provence twice but never during lavender season, determined to make it happen!

6 OUR NEWEST RECHARGEABLE LAMPS ARE ON THE WAY! I cannot tell you how excited I am for these to arrive. So many of you have asked about these and they are very much worth the wait! We will have a presale on them this coming week and they will be here within 4 weeks. There is a lot of anticipation around these beauties and the fact that they are rechargeable makes them extra special….you can put them anywhere, no outlet needed!

These measure just about 17″

These are 18.5″ tall

7 SUNDAY’S SURVEY You are out and about, you see someone begging, it could be a young kid who looks like hes barely hanging on, a mother with. few kids in tow, an old man who has seen better days. What is your inclination? Mine, wrong or right, is to always give something. Yes, I know, I know, sometimes they are on drugs or alcohol and just want to buy more, or maybe its a scam, but i am uber sensitive and just cannot turn away. It breaks my heart to see human suffering of any kind and for me to hand a few dollars to them,  will not change my life, but will make them feel worthy. I know many may not agree but I stand behind what I feel is right.

I am also very picky about my towels and sheets. I used to use the Neiman Marcus white sale to purchase nice sheets. I have found that Lands End offers quality sheets and towels. They will monogram both and I like that. You should test them out!

That library- wow just love it! The dish looks amazing, my family would love it, may even try tonight. Love your recipes.
The lamps are stunning. I cannot wait to order. I always will hand someone a few dollars. I don’t know what they do with it but to me, if you have to demoralize yourself to beg in public you are at a low point in life, and if a few dollars can make a slight difference, I will happily do it.

Thanks for reminding me that I need to order large bath sheets for my husband.
Your recipe looks easy and delicious. I wish there was a way to print out the recipe on 1-2 pages. I thought you mentioned a while back that you were going to have your recipes easy to print. I have tried many of your recipes and they were all delicious
Love the video of Provence. We are lucky here on Long Island that we have Lavender on the Bay in East Marion. Such a special place.

I can’t believe the library was SEVEN years ago! Took my breath away then as much as it does today!

Love, love, love that library! I have to share that I did an accent wall — with traditional moldings — in navy in our new living room (builder basic, it really needed the oomph) . Everyone loves it! Best part is that it’s like the new neutral — every color looks great against it, artwork really pops on it, my antique blue and white plates look stunning.

Just bought a new towel set from Ballard Dedigns, and they are wonderful. Love the new lamps!

I would have checked “Other” in your Sunday’s Survey if it were an option: ongoing advocacy for an economic system that provides a more humane baseline for people. We have so very much, and there’s enough for everyone. Thank you for voicing your compassion for those in need, even the ones trapped in crime, illness, or self-destruction. Those comments epitomize “pretty is as pretty does.”

I just purchased the towels from front gate and love them. They are thick, heavy and so luxurious. They wash beautifully. I bought them in white with a light blue monogram.

The way I would decide on the library color is the size of the room. Smaller library, the blue/gray. Larger library, the dark blue. Love lacquer. In a library!

Wondering if you sell just lamp shades to interchange with the green shades that came with the crystal candlestick rechargeable lamps.

Library color…size of room a major consideration esp with lacquer. Dark colors even this blue will close in and feel stifling
Pale grey blue or taupe would be my choice and then if you love navy…accent the back of bookcases or use the color in side or coffee tables

Cannot wait to make your recipe! We LOVE Mediterranean food & eat a lot of it. I love using fresh mint in the spring & summer ‐ tastes so incredibly fresh. YUM! Thanks for the recipe. xo

I remember seeing the navy lacquered room in a magazine years ago and just loving it, bravo on a beautiful job !! Do it in your new house.

Love the library, the recipes and instagram posts, the videos, the new lamps and let’s talk.

Hi Tina. Thanks for introducing the subject that you did in your Sunday Survey this week. I often feel like there is a stigma to giving to those who ask for money with a sign, that they’re just taking advantage of us to feed their drug addiction. However, we have a family member with a significant mental illness and I often think, without our family support, this precious person we know and love would not know how to care for himself and could be reduced to asking for money. Responding to people on a street at a busy intersection (the only place I encounter them) can be difficult though because of needing to respond with quick action and allowing for safety. It’s always a split second decision. Either way with my response, sometimes I’m left with guilt. I wish there was better access to mental health services in our country and that there were more of them. I actually worked in the field of drug addiction at one time and can attest to how difficult it is for people to achieve sobriety when there is no medical “cure”, only behavioral modification. Anyway, I admire your stance on the subject and agree that responding with a helpful donation is a humane response.

I was a bit surprised and disappointed with the response of your survey. We will never really know the story behind the people begging for money. So why not help another person in trouble.

I always give. It is not my place to judge. It especially breaks my heart when there are children involved. One day I saw a poor older lady out in the freezing cold. gave her my coat, as I have plenty of coats at home. So sad!

I did my library with high gloss teal. Just happen to find teal velvet-ish full length drapes. I have accents of red and an antique rug made in Iran that is primarily red with teal accents. Even the rim is high sheen color. I love it

That lacquer library is sensational! Good job on that. So rich and elegant. Love all the new lamps, cannot wait to order.
I always give if I have money on me (now always as I do not use cash like I used to) but if I have it, will most definitely give. One never knows the stories behind those in that situation and you know its often very sad. Whats $5 or $10 to me in the scheme of things. If it will buy them a good. hot meal (sometimes other things) I am good with it. I do not judge.
Kind of shocked at how many don’t do that! I am with you Tina, it just “feels right”. Lovely post.

The navy lacquer makes a statement and the other color is just lacquer instead of paint. I always give if I have cash because GOD is the judge and we love regardless.
