I know this weekend is often seen as the unofficial kickoff to summer, filled with get-togethers, barbecues, and celebrations with friends and family. But I believe it’s so important to pause and remember the true meaning behind Memorial Day.
It’s a day to honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country—those who made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we enjoy every day. And it’s not just their sacrifice we recognize, but also the deep sacrifice of the families they left behind. I don’t think its acknowledged enough that the gift these brave men and women give our country is a gift from their families as well. They have/are given up “traditional life” with their loved ones to share them with and for our country.
I hope you will watch (and share) this short, beautiful video as a small way to reflect, remember, and give thanks.
To all who have served, and to their families—thank you. Your sacrifice will never ever be forgotten.
Thank you Tina for sharing. That was a lovely tribute and very well spoken by President Reagan, A great reminder for all of us to contemplate and remember.
Blog Comment CreationThank you for this heartfelt reminder, Tina. It’s so true that we often overlook the immense sacrifice made by the families of those who serve—your words brought that into such meaningful focus. Taking a moment to reflect today feels all the more important after reading this.
Thanks for reminding us what this Memorial Day really means!! We are here living free because of those who sacrificed their life!! LET US NEVER FORGET AND BE THANKFUL IN EVERY WAY…
Such a beautiful video, Tina! We love the USA! We are Canadians who spent six months for 16 years on South Padre Island, Texas. during the winter. Yes, we are Canadians but a part of our heart is “American”! During our years spent on SPI, I was part of a quilting group “Sewing Seeds of Love” which was embroidered on every quilt — some 200+ that we had the privilege of taking to Brook’s Army Hospital and giving to those precious, wounded soldiers who gave so much. I will never forget this — or the wonderful tour that the military took us on. One visit, we had the honor of being invited to a service where they honored those men who were severely wounded as a result of saving others and awarded them a Medal of Honor for their bravery! There wasn’t a dry eye in the place. After the ceremony, we were able to speak with these brave men, and it was such a wonderful experience — one that I will hold in my heart forever! My precious Dad served in WWII and lost a leg as a result of being wounded. We were always taught to honor the veterans who sacrificed so much for our freedom.
