Once Thanksgiving comes and goes many us go into autopilot and start planning for the holidays so yes with all the ornament and gift wrap activity on this end, I have what you might call a case of holiday fever. Many of you have asked us for help\u00a0 to figure out how many ornaments you need, how many lights,etc….I am no pro and can only go by my own experience of decorating a tree every year but I figured it was timely to do a post on this subject. Many of you have also asked for an “ornament package” where they could purchase enough ornaments for a specific sized tree at a discount so that is part of this post here today.<\/p>\n
Some people will be starting with ornaments of their own and in that case you will obviously not need as many. What we have figured out for a tree starting from scratch, is below. This is of course a rough estimate and you can put less or put more, and no doubt end up with a beautiful tree. This is just a guide. So for anyone who is interested in placing an order for large quantities of ornaments at the bottom we have included our “package prices”. Here is a closer look at my own 10 foot tree which I used approx. 180 ornaments on. I am a huge fan of using the big 5″ solid pearlized balls because they “fill” the tree beautifully and compliment the entire collection so nicely. They are available in icy blue, ivory, copper, blue and red.<\/p>\n
What I love about his blue and white collection is that they mix and match so beautifully with any color ball. So here are some of my ideas-<\/p>\n <\/p>\n ORNAMENTS-<\/strong><\/span> So the guide\u00a0 below is a guide as to what we recommend in terms of total ornaments used. Of course if you have your own, then you would calculate accordingly.\u00a0 A few things to consider-<\/p>\n Again this is a guide. On my own tree I used approx 180 ornaments. Several people have asked about a topper. Next year!! I will offer 3 toppers and am already working on the designs:)<\/p>\n These numbers would go down by approx 20% if you were to use other adornments besides ornaments, things that can be added to a tree are<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Now I am not telling you to go out and do this but when I get an idea in my head, I need to act on it immediately. That is just the way my brain works. So as an example last year when I became obsessed with flocked anything, the closest and easiest thing for me to flock were a few wreaths. So guess what I did? I got a can of ivory spray paint and created a flocked look on anything in my path, wreaths, evergreen branches, giant pine cones, good thing my kids weren’t there:)<\/p>\n There are also other products besides spray paint (lol) that are out in abundance, I cannot endorse any particular one since I have not tried them but given their popularity they must do the trick, only thing I have heard is sometimes those products “shed” leaving the flakes of “faux snow” on the floor which would make me crazy. Not so with my trusty little spray paint!! Here is a look at some ideas using other elements besides just ornaments-<\/p>\n \n \n <\/p>\n LIGHTS-<\/strong> <\/span>Most trees start with lights. I am not a fan of colored lights, its a personal thing. I am all about crisp white lights. I like the smaller ones and go for the “more is more” approach. As an example on my ten foot tree I used about 1400 hundred mini lights (white lighting).<\/p>\n The light guide is below-<\/p>\n Quite a few people have asked us for faux tree recommendations. While I am no expert I can say that these companies below produce a top notch tree that will stand the test of time and are very realistic looking. Though you can certainly find faux trees for far less, think in this case you get what you pay for.<\/p>\n I would invest in a good tree that you will love for many years to come and that will withstand countless holidays. Many come prelit which is a huge huge perk, in fact priceless in my book as I cannot stand dealing with lights! Click here to visit them<\/strong><\/em><\/a> for a wide assortment of both sizes and styles<\/p>\n \n King of Christmas<\/strong><\/span> is another name I am hearing more and more, I have not seen their trees personally but by many other accounts, they too have a great high quality assortment of trees, most of their trees seem to\u00a0 come with the option of lit vs unlit click here to visit them<\/strong><\/em><\/a><\/p>\n \n <\/p>\n To anyone who buys a real tree and until last year, that would have been me, PLEASE be sure the nursery gives your tree an extra few shakes and ask how the trees have been treated for aphids. These are tiny black crawling sap loving insects that love Christmas trees. Don’t know what they are? Neither did I UNTIL LAST YEAR!!!!!! I love the smell and feeling of a real tree but just too traumatized from last year to go that route again (at least for now).<\/p>\n We had a major infestation with those horrid little\u00a0 bugs that look like ticks last year. They live in Christmas trees and in the warm air of a house, if there are eggs present or any live bubs on the branch\/in the sap,\u00a0 they hatch and come to life. Nurseries know about them and take precautions but every year there are some trees as hard as they try that make it into peoples home filled with aphids. We were one of those unlucky homes last year. So at least for now, a faux tree it is!<\/p>\n I cant’ even bring myself to post a picture of what they look like in case you are looking for a picture<\/strong>, it will bring back horrible memories but a quick google search will tell you what to look for.\u00a0 I had to share this information with you!
