Hi there, hope this finds you well! I am finally happy to share a new renovation post with you. To be honest, not a lot has happened as we are in a bit of holding pattern waiting for one chimney to come down and waiting on windows. But there has been some movement and trust me, every little step feels joyous to me! We are putting on a slate roof and that was delivered so that was exciting.  I don’t go there very often (once a week or ten days) as we are not yet at the stage where there’s much to see day to day but in a month or so that will change and I will be going over a lot more often!

Next post I am going to start sharing my design ideas for certain spaces. Definitely my favorite part! I have my first kitchen cabinetry appt this week which is quite exciting. And I am gathering lots of ideas/pictures in my online folders for inspiration for certain spaces. The one thing I miss about that house the most is the light, it has beautiful natural light and it makes the spaces feel so inviting. The house we are in is beautiful and stately but very dark. I have a hard time trying to take lifestyle shots, proof of how important natural light is. Light is really important to me, always has been.

OK enough of my jabbering, here we go with the latest….

So is what things look like right now, framing is done. Roof is plastic sealed. Waiting on windows which turned out to be a major and long ordeal but they are in production and should be here within 2-3 months. With prices going up, up,up…we bought the roof a few months ago so that has already been delivered but will not be put on for a month or two. So, let’s take a look around….

The main base of the house remains but will get new roof and windows

Above the right side is all the new section hard to see with the trees

We will keep the beautiful pediment, it is so stately and classic

Seeing it from the back gives you a much better idea

The 5 pictures below show our master bedroom taken down to the studs-  one wall even (to our surprise) revealed a brick wall! The building team and engineer marveled at the quality of the wood used to frame this house 100 years ago. They said that if it were sale, we could literally sell this quality wood ass they do not build with this thickness and quality of wood any more…you never know what peeling back the layers will reveal!

Above is the sitting room and where my closet and bathroom were, now its a big open space being reconfigured..

This goes from the sitting room to the actual bedroom, its a bright sunny space which I love and yes, we kept all the doors and moldings

The view is one of the best parts especially in the spring and of course the way the sunlight floods the room

We are raising the ceiling here and will add shiplac with a chandelier in center

Downstairs this will eventually be our kitchen and breakfast room, took out the fireplace in middle to open up the space and lo and behold an old hidden fireplace was revealed on the far left in breakfast room (where you see the cutout) so we are possibly going to use that and create a fireplace in the breakfast room, there will be french doors at end and the opening to the right will lead to a covered porch also accessible from family room

Above would be if you were sitting at the kitchen island looking into the breakfast room/patio

This below is the big sink window above the sink-

A hallway leading to the family room/mudroom/side entrance (I will put lanterns here instead of high hats)

Our future family room, certainly our favorite room so far. Almost identical to our old family room (this one is a little longer) and has better views:)

An eventual stair hall is quite dramatic, 3 stories…look forward to seeing this come to life!

The cupola feels like a work of art, such mastery! There will be glass panels.

And that’s the latest! I look forward to circling back within 2 weeks and sharing the beginning of some of my ideas (of many chapters to come). Thanks for stopping in, wishing everyone a wonderful day. Until next time….

Why shiplap in yoour bedroom? It’s totally out of character with your beautiful, elegant historic house.

actually used the wrong terminology, we are applying some kind of molding to that raised ceiling have not planned it out yet:)

What an exciting adventure for you! It will be glorious when finished!
I look forward to the updates!

Your new home is going to be spectacular, especially the family room with those gorgeous views! I really enjoy following along on your building journey, such fun, thank you for sharing!

Wow! Wow! Wow! It all looks fabulous! The views are amazing. The fireplace in the breakfast room was a nice surprise. Happy you are keeping it there. All very exciting! Thank you for taking us along to see it all come together.

Thank you for the update! Everything will turn out beautifully. Your patience (and your readers’ too) will be rewarded when this is completed.
I am excited to see the decorating progress, and am having fun voting on design choices. ❤️

WOW! Were there two chimneys in the family-breakfast room where you found the hidden fireplace? Is there a chimney above the hidden fireplace you found in the breakfast room? Amazing workmanship! Hard to find. It’s going to be beautiful! I also love the fact that outside will not look “added on to.” It is so balanced!

This is going to be fabulous, and fun to plan! Is the cupola over the staircase? I am trying to envision where it will be in the house. Have fun!

Tina you should consider putting in an elevator to all floors. As you age you will be happy you have it… Also practical for bringing up storage, luggage etc etc in the basement or lower level , I’m in Birmingham , Bloomfield Hills. Mi and all the new larger homes now have elevators plus the older ones during renovations are installing them.. As you age you will be happy you have one..Sending Gods Blessings to you and your family.

Beautiful! A dream to create, a dream to watch and admire your talents. Wow!

Thanks for letting us see the updates. I agree about wood the old houses are built to last. We live in a custom 75yr old house of quality wood. Today homes are built cheap even if price is steep. You can’t find quality wood or workmanship like in past. You will have a grand looking house when finished. I am curious why you chose this style house? Was it because of water view?

Sincere thanks for sharing your incredible renovation. I will look forward to your many updates as I follow along.

Oh nothing as beautiful as a great big white house! This is so grand and from a bygone era. I have always wanted a big white house with black shutters, so elegant! Cannot wait to see the progress, I. know its going to be incredible. Fun to follow along, Tina.

Such a beautiful home already! I agree, light is so important and it looks like every space has plenty of it. We are renovating a much smaller lake house but I am really looking forward to seeing all of your selections and the process that goes behind the decisions, trust your taste implicitly! Fun, fun, fun! Have a nice holiday weekend.

The many windows are going to fabulous allowing so much natural light, Tina. I love the design and know it is going to be perfect for your family. That Cupola is WOW!
