Hi! Hope you are having a wonderful weekend. We have been having the nicest weather, very unusual for August and I am most certainly not complaining! Just praying it might stay this way until later August when we celebrate Phillips 1st birthday! Can you believe it? Our little butterball is turning one. We have had a nice weekend, went to a birthday dinnrt for a good friend, was supposed to go into the city last night, but my husband hurt his back so today and I am under the weather so it will be a low key stay at home day (and I am quite happy about it)!

OK onward to my post this weekend…..

1 KITCHEN ISLANDS- TO HAVE A SINK OR NOT? This is a decision I have to make really soon as the plumbing is happening now. I have debated on putting a sink in the island. I can make an argument either way. I will have two large farm sinks on one wall and its not so far from the range that I would have to warrant a sink in the island.

I did use my island sink in old house but the range was on the opposite wall so it made sense, there were times it did annoy me though. I do not care for the way the island sink disrupts the island and the work space. So I am having a hard time…help! Would love your take. A few reference pictures of kitchens with and without island sinks. For reference our island will be approx 11 ft.  I need to tell plumber by Tuesday so the pressure is on.

2 QUINCE Wow they are making me a fast believer, I featured them yesterday and put this post togehter before that posted so here is my favorite piece. I had heard about them when their viral %50 cashmere sweaters went viral and ended up ordering a couple, figuring worst case scenario I could return them. Was not prepared for how much I would love them! Since then, found some other goodies, the one I am most excited about is this chic jacket/sweater,  I actually own this same style from a cashmere company that was much much more expensive so excited to see this and had to order in the brown color. 3 INSTAGRAMS OF INTEREST Lots of beauty this weekend!

4 NEW LINENS JUST ARRIVED! We are so excited over our fabulous new line of linens we designed. I am quite obsessed, we did a variety of colors but focusing on including some stunning fall tones in addition to year round blues. These are being photographed as I speak and we will hold an arrival sale on these sometime in the next week or so, stay tuned, this are absolutely fabulous! Had fun pairing them with our various china patterns and new mini rechargeable lamps. This is just a tiny peek into a much larger selection!

5 IF YOU NEED A FEEL GOOD STORY This one will surely warm your heart. A random person (believe on her way to work) continued to watch this elderly man push his little ice cream cart for miles and miles every day in the Florida heat, she would continue to buy ice cream from him and seeing his kindness and worth ethic touched her,  so she started a Go Fund Me. The fund raised about $30,000 to get him transportation and an ice cream cart.  These kinds of stories make my day. It shows us there are still lots of amazing humans out there, just wanting to do the right thing. Love this story! Click here to read the entire story.

6 EVENTS IN BLOOM Was floored over these pictures featuring our products, especially our lattice urns and pedestals (sold out but coming back in Sept).  Events in Bloom based in Houston is so incredibly talented!! I love seeing our products in such beautiful events/venues..always a thrill!

7 SUNDAYS SURVEY I always am curious as to how people find out about new show/movies. I feel like its always happenstance when we find out about a new show or movie. Ironically some of the best ones that we have seen were not necessarily brand new and I always wondered how we never heard of them! Curious if you have a reliable way to get word of new/upcoming shows, movies,etc..or do you rely on word of mouth, social media, etc..? If you do, sure would love to know OR if you have a great new show/series…I am all ears!

Not crazy about a sink in the island. I do a lot of entertaining and when all is set to go and I am serving a family style dinner from the island that “sink” sticks out like a sore thumb. People start putting and dropping things into the sink that is dirty. Hence the serving trays and food are amongst the dirty items in the sink, not pretty.
My second house has two sinks behind the island and I love it. Serviceable and makes more sense and now the focus is on the serving trays and food on the island not the dirty dishes that get piled up.

Love the new linens! I do not care for sinks in an island (have had both with and without) Its a much cleaner look to not have a sink and I cannot stand when dirty dishes are left there (my kids) as long as the other 2 sinks are reasonably close to the stove I think you are fine, also assume you will have a pot filler?
Beautiful post as always, now off to the football field!

Don’t do the sink! Its such an ugly addition to a beautiful marble island. People tend to use those more and leave pots and plates in it and its such an ugly distraction. I think a clean island top is so much nicer. Just make sure you have a pot filler so you don’t have to bring big heavy pots to the sink.
Got your new rechargeable lamps- love them! Used them last night for a small party we had.

The sink on the island decision is so hard. Our first island did not have one and it was a huge island like yours will be. It is where I did all my food prep, fed my little ones, did projects…I really wanted a sink. I would have to wipe all the crumbs, etc., and then transport them to my sink opposite the island. Not the end of the world, but not as functional.
Now I have a 9 1/2′ island and I have a sink smack in the middle. My own choosing when we remodeled. I love it and use it all the time (as well as a two-bowl farmhouse sink at the perimeter between dishwasher and trash/recycling). I ended up choosing function and I’m glad I did, but yes, I still miss the beauty of a beautiful, uninterrupted, full slab of marble and also its decorating possibilities. I still put flowers and candles and such on it, but the eyeline is definitely broken and busier looking with the sink there.
If you can have a scullery for most of your food prep, that would be amazing! Then you could just use the island for fun prep, like apps and cheeseboards, etc.
Best of luck making your decision! I have followed you a long time and know that whatever you do, it will be absolutely beautiful!

Love my big farm house sink at a big kitchen window. I always have pit fillers over the range so that’s not an issue.
I have a huge island I use for prep, serving and sometimes craft lay out prior to big party.

Remember when cutting up veges, onions, and such, there would be a sink there that I always put cuttings in, then collect to trash. If no sink, put in trash drawer!

I don’t know the layout of your kitchen. However, rule of thumb says a sink should be close to the stove and refrigerator reducing the amount of walking it takes to prepare meals. We are not getting younger!!!!

Love the clothing ideas! You have excellent taste. Thanks for sharing it.
And, team no sink. Leave that beautiful stone without one!

I love your big island!! If you’re talking about the sink being your primary sink, then that depends on where you want to look while you’re working at your sink–out a window with a beautiful view or looking into your home–whatever that view will be.
If you’re thinking about putting in an additional sink in the island, then you can place it in one of the corners. I love having an additional sink so someone can be using the island sink and leaving the primary sink available for other tasks.
If you want the island totally available while entertaining, you can have a “cover” made to place over the “hole” the sink makes. That cover can even be a custom charcuterie board!

Hi Tina,
If you are having two farm sinks put in your new kitchen, then why would you need a 3rd one? I think you would find it being in the way of preparation of food service.

I have a 10ft island with no sink but I have 2 other sinks…one off to the side and the other in a butlers pantry. The uninterrupted island allows for a clean look and is great for entertaining as I use it to serve buffets as people can walk around and select their food without the interruption of a sink.
Dirty dishes are then tucked away out of sight.

My goodness, the florals in your products at Events in Bloom are stunning! So many beautiful things in your post. I had my eye on that jacket/sweater last winter and think I need to order it. Interested to hear how it fits.

My island runs parallel to cabinets/countertop w/sink in it… so I don’t need another in this area…. I do have another sink In another part of my kitchen

I think you may end up disappointed putting a sink in your island. I have a large island ; never once have been dissatisfied that I didn’t put a sink there. It acts as another table for buffets when entertaining.
Who wants a sink in their “ table “. ? Also in terms of any decor on the island ; the sink will be another section taking away counter top space.
But the bottom line is …… what do you really want ?

Like having no sink in my home island, great for serving, then again at the lake house I put a sink in the island so I could enjoy lake views while doing dishes!

Re: the island sink. I have gone both ways in past remodels, but the main reason we have one now is that our family cooks—-when the kids are home, even though we have a large kitchen, we would really be in one another’s way if we didn’t have the island sink. Otherwise I would be on the fence—-I get the interrupted space thing.

Your products looks fabulous at the event in Houston. Wow! My preference is no sink in island – mine is 11’ i do have 2 sinks and 2 trash/recycle cabinets. One of those is in the island and the other next to sink. I skipped pot filler and put in a second sink near the stove. This is game changing! I was in a terrible car accident and my neck is severely injured. Not having to lift hot, heavy pits full of water to the sink and just easily drain then has been a godsend. For my neck and for my husband as we age. It’s super convenient when our family cooks together. good luck

Re: island sinks, I think it depends on your room layout. My large island farmhouse sink overlooks my great room, fireplace and tv. And faces my bar stools. Since I seem to spend the majority of my time at this sink I can easily interact with people sitting at my island or in the great room. The island is large and I entertain a great deal but have no problems with buffets and still have room for a small lamp and large seasonal arrangement..

The event using your lattice urns was amazing. What a wonderful way to showcase your products. I love the mossy green color with the vibrant flowers

I always love reading your Seven On Sunday, even, if it is Monday morning. It’s just so relaxing to read and enjoy my coffee. If you are looking for something to watch, Sullivan’s Crossing on Netflix is very good. You might also enjoy Ballard on Prime Video. The Paradise is also good and it’s on Prime Video too. On PBS is The Buccaneers, which is a remake and still a period piece, with modern music. Hope this helps? Enjoy.
