Good Sunday morning to you! I hope this finds you enjoying a beautiful and relaxing Labor Day weekend. It’s hard to believe we’ve already reached the “unofficial end” of summer. Everywhere I look I’m reminded of what’s ahead—school buses doing their trial runs, the first hints of fall in the air, and yes, even a few early signs of Halloween.

While I truly LOVE fall (it’s always been my favorite season), I can’t help but feel like this summer slipped away in the blink of an eye. Just as I was really starting to get into my summer rhythm, here we are turning the page to September.

Our weekend plans  ended up changing last minute (we were supposed to go out of town), which actually turned out to be a blessing in disguise. The unexpected downtime has been so nice after what feels like several nonstop weeks. We enjoyed a lovely dinner out last night, and today we’ll be heading to the Hamptons. Tomorrow, we’re toying with the idea of braving the crowds at the U.S. Open. I used to go faithfully every year, but these days I sometimes think it’s just as enjoyable (and far less chaotic) to watch from the comfort of home.

Let’s move on with my post this Sunday….

1 MOST BEAUTIFUL BIRTHDAY COOKIES I have shared cookies, that I have had made before, from Cowtown Cookies in Texas. She is the ultimate cookie maker in my book. Almost too beautiful to eat, but turns out they are as delicious as they are pretty. These were made for Phillips birthday party and I could not have loved them more!  I cannot wait to share pictures of his party. Though he was under the weather, it was such a special and beautiful day and he rallied. She is SO talented…..click here to follow her on Instagram.

These were Christmas cookies she made for me a few years ago-

A look at some of her work-

3 INSTAGRAMS OF INTEREST A beautiful round up this weekend..

4 LOVELY ENGLISH TOWN HOUSE TOUR English design style is unmistakable. Quirky (sometimes) elegant and sophisticated. Love the way her bedroom feel like a cocoon and that kitchen is pretty charming too!

5 OUR INCREDIBLE NEW NAPKIN RINGS!! Many of you have been waiting on these and the wait is over! We got a huge shipment of to me, some of the prettiest napkin rings I have seen. Cannot wait to set a table with these.

Started doing a little photo shoot with these and our incredible pumpkins (click here)  as well as with  our fabulous new linens, only got so far as the green but will get more done next week. Here is a sneak peek. These will soon be professionally photographed and be online mid week!

6 THE BEST ASIAN CHICKEN SALAD I made this about a week ago and forgot just how incredibly good it is. SO tasty! When I used to have people over for lunch (more often, need to get back into that) this was always the biggest hit. I promise you will love this salad, one of my all time favorites.

  • 1 head of cabbage, shredded fine
  • 3 nice sized chicken breast, shredded fine
  • about 4 TBSP soy sauce
  • 1 TBSP sugar,
  • 2 bunches scallions,
  • about 1/2-3/4 cup slivered almonds ( I toast mine)
  • 2 packs chicken Ramen noodles,
  • one can lo mein or rice noodles ( I use lo mein),
  • 3 tablespoons or more sesame seeds (I use black sesame seeds)
  • Finely grated ginger or powdered if you don’t have fresh (about 1 TBSP)
  • rice vinegar to taste

Shred cabbage very thin with a good sharp serenaded knife or a mandolin, which makes it easy. Boil chicken in salted water. When cool, shred to small pieces.

Chop up 2 bunches of scallions. Bake almonds until golden brown. Add cabbage, chicken, scallions and almonds and set aside covered. I

n small mixing bowl, add about 1/2 cup soy, 1/4 cup rice vinegar, the sesame seeds, 1/4 to 1/2 cup oil (not olive any vegetable or corn is fine),the chicken seasoning packets from ramen noodles and 2 tablespoons sugar.

Mix well, toss over salad up to 30 min. before you want to serve, add rice noodles at end and chopped up ramen noodles. Garnish with scallions and and almonds

7 SUNDAYS SURVEY This is so annoying to me, and I am curious as to how you would have reacted. I admit I have a “thing” with personal space. I don’t like when people get super close to me to talk or someone is overly touchy especially someone you don’t know. Yes, call it a hangup. But when a stranger does it, it really gets under my skin. The other day I was in a very crowded very tiny, very popular little market in the Hamptons.

The lady behind me was so close I could feel her breath. Every time I scooted up, she was literally within a few inches behind me. Finally I turned around, gave her a stare hoping that would do the trick. It did not. She continued moving within a few inches of me every time I took a step forward, finally I turned around and asked very politely if she wouldn’t mind getting so close. She gave me a look (not that friendly) and did in fact keep a normal distance from that point forward but it was so odd and rude that it took two efforts on my part for her to even realize it!

And that is a wrap for this Sunday’s post. Hope you enjoyed, it’s always nice to hear from you. I want to wish everyone a happy Labor Day weekend, hope whatever you are up to, it is relaxing and fun. Hard to believe we are closing out summer, though technically it doesn’t end until I think around the 22nd. With school about to go back in session and pumpkin lattes being rolled out, it’s safe to say summer is one foot out the door and fall will be here soon (personally I cannot wait). Until next time….

Good morning, Tina.
I didn’t answer the survey because “step on her foot” was not among the choices offered.
I also wonder if your new BFF could have been a pickpocket.

A comment regarding the close proximity of the lady in line. The same thing has happened to me. In fact, she kept stepping on my heels! After moving g side to side to avoid her, I finally asked her to please step ahead of me in line. Problem solved!

I missed your Sunday posts. OMG those cookies are outrageously beautiful. As are the new napkin rings and linens.

As far as that lady, HATE when people do that. It is so disrespectful. I would not have been as patient, I would have turned around and told her to stand back. Sad that people need to be told about manners. Love your blog. Have a great weekend.

So much yummy eye candy today! The linens look sumptuous can’t wait to take a look!

A great post. Cannot wait to make that salad! I love your recipes:-)

The woman you described was obviously assertive and lacked the courtesy to keep a normal distance. People like that need to be told, as they don’t “get it” unless told. My SIL is the same way and it drives me mad. After years of telling her, she is finally getting it and starting to think about how she comes across.

The invasion of personal space is one of my biggest peeves, especially in queues.
When I am not able to place some kind of a barrier (box, a cart, a basket, or a tote in my shoulder) between me and the person behind me, I’ve on occasion said: You are obviously in a bigger hurry than I am so why don’t you go ahead….?
That usually prompted them to back off and say, no that’s OK, thanks.

Asian salad looks so delicious! Measurements in written recipe do not match instructions. Is it 4 TBSP soy sauce or 1/2 cup, 1 TBSP sugar or 2 TBSP, and do you use white and green parts scallions or just green? Assuming whole bunch which is about 8-10 scallions? Thanks so much for clarification and wait to give this a try. I am a recipe follower not “a cook” so appreciate your directions!

Easy way to solve the problem of someone standing too close-turn around and smile. Then ask how are you or how’s your day going? Then take a step back. No need to “school” someone on polite behavior. Instead be gracious and thankful your mama raised you “right”.

Sara my mom raised me very “right”. Which is why I first tried a few other steps before asking her politely to step back. When I turned the first time it was with a slight smile, hoping that would do the trick. It did not. I wasn’t schooling her but rather was trying to have a reasonable distance as most would expect.

Cowtown Cookies does not ship. You have posted cookies from her several times. How do you get the cookies?

I’ve had this happen to me any number of times while in line & self check out. It drives me nuts. I feel like I’m not moving fast enough, or they’re breathing down my neck. They are in our personal space for sure. Some people simply do not have manners or don’t care…either way, I hate it.

I love the way those cookies look and will try them at our next family birthday party. And I’m so glad you talked to the close up stranger. I hate it when they do that to me, and now that I’m immunosuppressed I really cannot have strangers that close to me, so I would say something. At the grocery store I try to place the cart between me and the stranger. (Why don’t they understand they’re too close?)
Anyway, I’m happy Phillip’s birthday party went well. It’s so fun being a grandmother! I hope you have a wonderful week.

Sometimes I will let someone that follows too close go in front of me. This allows you to set the distance. I liked during covid when people intentionally had a few feet between them. The cookies are amazing. Cannot believe the details. Going to try the Asian salad and look forward to more renovation updates. It will be fun to see your house evolve.

I am also wondering how you are able to order cookies from Cowtown. The website says pick up at her house only. No shipping.
