Hope you are having a nice weekend. We had a group dinner for a friends birthday which was a lot of fun. I went into the city, had some Phillip time and today we are joinign them for breakfast then dinner with old friends tonight. Full weekend. Ready for the work week ahead.

Today would have been my dear mom’s 87h birthday. I miss her so so much. Not a day goes by that I don’t think of her in some capacity (often many times during the day). I know she is watching over me. I just feel it. Feel grateful for the 84 incredible years I was lucky enough to have her here with me. When I am with Phillip, I cannot help but think and reminisce about when my oldest was about that age, and we lived in the city and all the fun adventures my mom and I took him on. Such. great times. My parents were young and to me it felt like it would last forever. Call me naive (I was 22 so guess I was) but just never ever thought about when she wouldn’t be there. Its an adjustment I am still making, some days it hits harder than others (like today). Thank God I have my dad!

Anyone watching the Oscars tonight? I will tune in for the preshow, though we have dinner plans first. Years ago, NOTHING would have come between me and the Oscars, my friends and I had running texts for hours over who’s looks we like and those we didn’t. It was almost a ritual.  I planned my whole day around it. I have lost interest over the years, don’t care for the movies they are making. In fact don’t even know the movies that are up for the big awards! But when I get home, I will likely tune in for part of it. Ok enough of my gabbing here is my post today

1 OUR FRONT PORTICO IS HAPPENING! I can’t tell you how excited I was to drive up to the house and see some actual progress. I know, a lot of progress has been made indoors (the least exciting kind, the roughing) but to see this kind of progress on our new front portico/entrance was exciting! If you are on instagram and want to follow along, click here

It looks simple now but this is just the “foundation” for the portico,  roof is not done, the beautiful large reeded columns are not in, window are not installed..but it’s coming along!

Will do a Renovation Diaries blog post this week for those following along:)

2 NEW JEWELRY ADDED! So this unexpected jewelry intro has been a huge hit! We have even added some fabulous new pieces and restocked others. I think we are going to kind of go with it and make this a new category. Not only are the pieces so pretty but the price point is amazing, the kind that you don’t have to think about.

I love and own quite a bit of fine jewelry but will often mix this in and it looks fabulous. I also will never (never again) take fine jewelry on vacation. Not when costume looks so good and you don’t have to panic about losing it, or getting it stolen (both of which have happened).

Here are about 25 new pieces just added and don’t forget to celebrate until tonight all jewelry is 20% off! CLICK HERE

(there is a flat fee for shipping on jewelry now whether you buy 1 or 10 pieces)!

3 INSTAGRAM OF INTEREST Such a beautiful roundup of pictures this weekend-

4 MADE MY PISTACHIO BALLS AGAIN! A friend of mine loved them when she tried them and recently had surgery, so I made a small batch and sent them over. They definitely beat flowers though I did also send a small bouquet of tulips. These are so darn good! And really easy to make, if you love pistachio which we do. Always a huge hit, and they don’t last long (can stay refrigerate for 2-3 days in an airtight container) and probably could be frozen but I am not big on freezing desserts.

Ta dah! (and yes kept a little stash for us)…of course:)

What you need-

  • 2 vanilla round cakes or 2 pound cakes
  • 1 jar of pistachio cream (found in specialty shop or Italian gourmet shops)
  • Mascarpone (8 oz)
  • About 2 cups of unshelled pistachios crushed/ground

Take the two cakes and put them in a large bowl. Using gloves gently break up the entire cake into small pieces. Then add 8 oz of pistachio cream and 8 oz of hte mascarpone. Again with gloved hands, thoroughly mix it altogether. I then added about 1/4 up finely ground pistachios (this is optional) to the mix.

Using a small ice cream scoop, scoop out small balls, gently roll them through the ground up pistachios covering all areas. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment, Once done I refrigerated them which allowed them to “set”. Take them out a few minutes before you want to serve, add either ground pistachios over them as a garnish or powdered sugar. They stayed really well in the fridge for a few days ( and I am nearly sure you could easily freeze these as well) Enjoy!

5 THIS SCARES THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS OUT OF ME! Here is a look at a fully autonomous Amazon factory and the most advanced robotic warehouse in America. It just feels so cold and sterile, not a human in sight. Yes, I understand this is likely way more efficient but I don’t know, I like the idea of human hands, voices filling the air of a big cold empty warehouse. This is just moving too fast for me! I get it but it’s all happening so fast!

6 A FABULOUS NYC APARTMENT TOUR I have my city bug again and have been spending more time there. Every time I do, I miss it so much! How pretty are those dark brown chocolate walls and cozy library, her art collection is also wonderful.  I love this elegant prewar apt, beautifully layered, sophisticated and just lovely.

7 SUNDAYS SURVEY I was thinking the other day about how much communication even with my good friends is done via text. It seems like this is just the way things are nowadays. Often, I like it for its convenience but I also often miss the inflection and warmth of human voice. Sometimes I will just pick up the phone and do things the. old fashioned way.

I know as a society we are all getting use to this form of communication as our default way of connecting but I wonder if this is a grave mistake. I admit I do it way more than I pick up the phone but I am trying to be more conscientious of this. How about you?

Happy birthday to your beautiful mama Tina. I love how you honor her. I got my gold cuff this week, it is beautiful- great quality and great price too.
Oscars- my sister in law is obsessed (she worked in the film industry for years) so holds a fun Oscar party every year, we all go dressed up. It’s actually a lot of fun, but lie you, not really familiar with most of the new movies out there.
Those pistachio balls look “fire” as my 14 year old would say, need to try them. I too am a serial texter, its just so much easier!

House is looking beautiful. I follow you on your new account- so exciting! It is very regal looking.

I always text unless its my parents (who do not text) it just makes life/my day so much easier, though I agree sometimes you just need to hear someones voice.
Jewelry pieces are beautiful. Love the look.
Those automated factories are scary to me too, though they have been established in China for a few years now. It is the future, whether we like it or not.

Fun post Tina

I text my son in Brussels and my dauhter in law but if its important we call.. I also love she can send me a lot of photos of my yoiungest grandson Luca now nine years old plus he can message me on his texts lol I think texting is a great tool especially now often friends and familes live in different areas, including in my case Europe..Same goes with our cells and laptops; but I agree nothing beats human contact….lol

I so agree regarding the Oscars. I plan to tune into to see the arrivals and the fashions, but have only seen three of the ten nominated films for Best Picture. The storylines seem to be getting more and more strange.

Those pistachio balls look divine! I must try them. Lovely tribute to your beautiful mom, you know she is smiling down and proud of you Tina. I also used to love the Oscars but the movies seem so strange now. I just don’t don’t get it, you are not alone.
The new jewelry is beautiful. Ordered a few pieces. And what wonderful house progress, congratulations!

Dear Tina
A happy Sunday to you, especially whilst you are treasuring memories of your lovely mama on her birthday. Here in England it is Mother’s Day today. I love a dressy occasion so I will give myself a little indulgence in the Oscars fashion ( I used to love your take on that 🙂 But I have only seen one of the big movies, Hamnet. I can highly recommend it, the acting is next level. I absolutely love your new jewellery line, and like you I fear losing nice pieces on holiday. The renovation of your home is looking spectacular, I will start following in more detail.
Sending my love
Sallyx

Yes, we miss our mothers, those of us blessed to have had good ones! Mine had Parkinsons the last 20 years, lived to 93. I would bring her to my house and put a big wooden cutting board on her wheelchair handles and she would roll out pastry dough. Enjoy every single moment, someday we will wish we could do something that creative!!!! ❤️‍🩹❤️🙏❤️‍🩹💯

My husband and I took at tour of an Amazon warehouse in Tracy, CA. It was one of the most fascinating things I have ever seen and believe me, there were lots of human beings working there.

Hi Tina
What a lovely tribute post to your mum. I’m guessing your dad had a pretty sad day yesterday too! On another note, I made the pistachio balls recently. I ran out of ground pistachios to coat the last few so I used desiccated coconut instead! They were yummy too! Worth trying if you like coconut?

Happy Heavenly Birthday to your pretty mother.
I completely agree about the Oscars, Tina. We had it on for about 10 minutes & were excruciatingly bored. Didn’t know the movies or the actors. Many, many years ago I wouldnt have missed watching it.
