Hello! Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend. I have been recharging and playing catch up after being sick. Trying to pace myself, there is so much going around here, I want to make sure I don’t risk getting sick again. So much going on, it was nice to take a break yesterday and have a nice leisurely lunch with Phillip and family, always the highlight of my weekend. I am planning on going into the city today to visit the Met to see the Costume Art exhibit and possibly meet a friend for a quick bite. I was due to be away but wasn’t feeling quite up to it so postponed that for a week or two. There is plenty for me to do here, no rest for the weary! Ok, onward to my post today…
1 GORGEOUS MAGNOLIA Nothing says fall like beautiful fresh magnolia. No one does it better (or faster) than Weston Farms. Erin, the owner who has kept her father’s magnolia farm alive and well ships all over the country. You place your order and your fresh magnolia is cut and promptly shipped. I love opening up a box of her beautiful magnolia. I use it every fall normally early Oct up until Thanksgiving. Outdoors it stays for a long time, indoors I normally. like to et it a week or so before I want to use it (if using for a table or vases). She also makes the most gorgeous luxurious wreaths!
2 LETS TALK PAINT So as we are finished choosing paints for my NYC project (yay) it was quite an effort to get things just right but I must say we are all so pleased. I have featured some of the spaces here on the blog as well as on Instagram stories. I have had so many requests for paint colors. We tried MANY off whites, creams and everything in between and came up with such a dreamy combination. The creamy white that we chose for living and family room was one I get daily requests for So here it is! I think I will be using this combination in my own home.
3 INSTAGRAMS OF INTEREST Never a shortage of beautiful and inspiring images to share…
4 A RECIPE YOU WILL WANT TO TRY! It is officially soup season and there is always at least one pot of soup on my stove weekly. I recently tried this one and have since made it twice. VERY good and super flavorful. First time I made it with the cream and second tine, left it out and it was as tasty so the cream is optional.
5 OUR MOVIE/SERIES WATCH LIST Lots coming on TV these days and for those nights that start getting dark at 5pm (hate that) it will be nice to have something good to watch! Any suggestions of your own? I am all ears….
6 THE STORIED PLAZA HOTEL WILL CLOSE FOR 4 YEARS! The iconic Plaza hotel swill close for four long years. A lot of people were surprised at the announcement. I personally wasn’t. I was there for a wedding last year and a small charity even in the last several months and can attest to how tired it felt. Still special and that signature Plaza hotel sense of grandeur but there was no disguising that it had grown weary and was in need of a serious refresh. So, while 4 years is a long time…I have no doubt it will come back restored to its formal glory and then some!
7 SUNDAY’S SURVEY You go to someone’s house and upon entering they tell you they have a no shoes policy and ask you to leave shoes at the door. Though i would probably prefer to keep my shoes on, of course I would oblige. I was listening to a podcast and they were talking about this and one of the hosts said she would have a hard time with it, would keep her shoes on and if asked again would make up an excuse to leave. I was surprised to hear that, but maybe I am wrong to assume that most would not have a problem with that. How would you react?
And that is a wrap for today. Hope you enjoyed my Sunday post, thank you for stopping in- wishing everyone a wonderful and relaxing Sunday. Until next time….
Thank you for another wonderful Seven on Sunday. Having my morning coffee and reading what is new with you and The Enchanted Home makes my Sundays special.
Regarding the no shoes survey, I carry a set of slippers in my purse just in case. I for one would not ask my quests to take off their shoes, after all only one evening.
Enjoy fall!
For your poll question, I always carry a spare pair of slippers in my car so that if I were asked to remove my shoes, especially during the summer when you might be wearing sandals and no socks, I would just go outside and grab my slippers. This way, you are following the hostesses’ rule and still feeling comfortable with the situation.
I agree! I went to a fancy party once and there was a sign at the door to remove my shoes ( so much a part of my outfit!). I walked in stocking feet all night.
I lived in Tokyo and this is just standard culture. when you walk in your front door there is always a shoe closet so you never wore them in your home. I also had a basket of slippers for guest to put on and a lot of people carried their own slippers when visiting.
I tried to incorporate that with immediate family when we moved back to the states but I never asked people to take off their shoes. Only the grandsons as they always see, to have or get muddy shoes once they are here. We have lots of woods for them to play in.
The magnolia is beautiful. That soup looks so good, may need to try that. I have not tried a recipe of yours that my entire family has not loved. Cookbook Tina? Thanks for sharing the paint. We are going to repaint living and family room this spring so I will bookmark this post.
I would have no issue taking my shoes off. Their house, their rules. In fact my sister does that in her own home. We are used to it, sometimes people push back but she’s adamant (she also has a child who is immune compromised).
Having a nice apple fritter this morning from a local donut pastry shop and reading the blog Tina. I don’t like shoes in the house. I do ask guest to remove their shoes. If they don’t want to for whatever reason I also have shoe covers available. I buy bulk packs of socks at Costco for the basket at the door for folks to put on and everything is laundred once the party is over. It may be cultural and or regional thing to do. I didn’t grow up removing shoes but I do it now. I have a pair of folded slippers in a pouch that I keep in my bag or car for that very purpose. That way I’m always prepared.
Love magnolia! As for the shoe policy, I understand it. I would like to be told beforehand though. I take socks or slippers when I know the place I’m going to has that policy.
Was recently in a home owned by Japanese. They graciously keep a stash of new slippers for guests to wear upon arriving in their home. Fun, clean, and makes sense! not offensive in the least.
Your question today is an interesting one. I would not blink, but for my husband, who needs his shoes to walk safely, this would be an incredibly awkward moment.
How about doing a blog post about the kinds of slippers you carry with you or the best kinds of slippers to offer for guests at the door of a no-shoes home? Would love to see your recommendations, especially since this is becoming a wider spread practice. What do you suggest offering for people who can’t remove their shoes/stockings for medical reasons? No one enjoys the disposable medical shoe covers/booties, especially at a party, and those can be very slippery on uncarpeted stairs.
Fun post and love the magnolia, so stately. We stayed at the Plaza about 3 years ago, I was underwhelmed. I am glad they are getting a makeover.
I have no problem taking my shoes off and in fact have often thought about doing that in my own home. As a clean freak, I sometimes get really grossed out thinking of all the germs we bring into our homes. I like the idea of some carrying a bootie or slipper in your trunk “just in case”. Glad you are feeling better- enjoy the Met!
Weighing in on the ‘leave shoes by the door’ request: I have a basket of cozy socks available. I have a large blue and white antique rug in my living room that I don’t want shoes on. I had one guest refuse to remove his shoes, so I said, “okay, we just won’t sit in the living room.” We all just sat at the dining room table and talked. Worked out fine
I always look forward to your delightful Seven on Sunday! In regard to the shoes issue, I grew up in a no-shoes-in-the-house rule, but my mother would never, ever, ask quests to remove their shoes. Nor would I. Shoes are a part of our outfit, and I just cannot believe that any guest would arrive with shoes caked in mud. I think the notion is in poor form & should be abandoned.

My opinion is the host/hostess should notify guests of the no shoes policy when issuing the invitation, so guests can be prepared.
I agree! I went to a fancy party once and there was a sign at the door to remove my shoes ( so much a part of my outfit!). I walked in stocking feet all night.
I wear medical stockings and never wear them without shoes, so this would be a difficult ask for me.
I agree with Deb…good grief…what about a no top policy, no jewelery policy…good grief…

Didn’t your mom originally do this blog? Years ago I thought I remembered it was her.
Thank you

I wouldnt ask my guests to take their shoes off but thats what we all do as a family at home. Also some cultures abide by that rule ……

I totally agree with the “no shoes in the house” policy. Think about all the germs you are bringing in on the bottom of your shoes!
In regards to removing shoes. I would oblige however I think it is rude on the part of the hostess.
Weighing in on the ‘leave shoes by the door’ request: I have a basket of cozy socks available. I have a large blue and white antique rug in my living room that I don’t want shoes on. As my mother used to say, “Do what the hostess has in mind, unless it’s illegal or immoral.” (Today even some legal things I would not do! Haha!)
