I wanted to talk today about clothing and day-to-day dressing. One thing I’ve found as I’ve gotten older is that I tend to gravitate toward certain silhouettes, and when I find something I truly love—say, the perfect pair of pants—I will often buy two, three, or even four pairs. Sometimes in different colors, and occasionally even in the exact same color if they’re that good!
I’ve definitely become more drawn to classic, timeless pieces. I don’t pay much attention to trends unless they happen to align with something I genuinely love. When I head to the office or warehouse at least 3x a week, I practically have a uniform at this point: a simple loafer or flat, an easy sweater or top, and a pair of Theory pants that I think I own in four or five versions. Predictable? Maybe. Comfortable and practical? Absolutely.
Recently, I started going through my closet to assess what I have for the warmer months ahead, which seem to have arrived overnight. What I discovered is that I have plenty of options for dinners, parties, and evenings out, but not nearly as much for everyday dressing. That’s probably because I tend to wear the same types of clothes to work and rarely think about refreshing those basics.
I ended up going onto Quince after spotting a few pieces I liked and quickly found myself down a very deep rabbit hole! I came across so many wonderful classic staples, and I have to say, the prices are honestly incredible. My experience with Quince has consistently been excellent. Their price point delivers surprisingly nice quality, and I imagine that’s a big reason for their enormous success.
You might remember me mentioning their $50 cashmere sweaters. I loved them so much I bought four colors, all of which are neatly packed away waiting for next fall and winter.
This time around, I put together what I would consider a simple summer capsule wardrobe. Most of the pieces work beautifully together and can be mixed and matched effortlessly. I love having a lightweight cotton sweater or scarf nearby for those unexpectedly cool summer evenings. A simple shirtdress- yes. To me, a crisp button-down shirt will always be in style, and a well-fitting T-shirt is an absolute wardrobe essential. Add a great pair of pants, a comfortable sandal, and you’re set.
One of my favorite new finds is their T-strap sandal. I’ve always loved that style for summer, and the fact that it has a padded sole makes it even better.
So here is my idea of a classic, versatile, and very affordable summer capsule wardrobe. I’d love to know—how do you like to dress? Have you found yourself simplifying your wardrobe over the years, or do you still enjoy mixing it up and trying new things? This is based upon casual day time dressing, I will do others for dressier occasions, evenings out, etc….
This is very “Somethings gotta give” and I love it…..
I have to say their affordability is very attractive but the quality of their items is the real selling point. No wonder they are doing so well. I love everything I hve purchased and waiting on a few more pieces to get my summer off to a stylish start. Would love to know how you approach summer dressing? Until next time…..
Wonderful post, Tina. The pieces are lovely and practical. At my age (60), i’m more comfortable in a dress than shorts and wear one almost daily in the summer. Capsule wardrobes are so smart. Thanks!
Yes! I have been dressing this way for a few years. At age 65, I, too, pay little attention to trends. I stick with classic lines. Flattering and comfortable is the way to go.
I love Beth’s idea of a comfortable dress, especially for the summer.
Love the outfits Tina! I live near the ocean on the west coast so it is 65 degrees year round. Slim ankle pants, collared shirt and cardigan is my everyday outfit. Pair it with a nice handbag, love raffia for spring and summer, then you are set. Stripes and checks are my favorite, at 69 years old I am staying away from most prints. Thanks!
LOVE these looks. Classic simple and elegant. I am 58 and gave up trends years ago. I love these because they are casual but chic. No surprise your excellent taste extends to clothing too!
I have been buying from Quince ever since you first mentioned them. I’ve purchased handbags, jackets, pants, linen items, cashmere and have loved every piece. Great quality and extremely reasonable prices .
Thank you for always sharing your finds! I like others love your taste ! I just last week from your post on Quince ordering about five thing and love them! About to order more! I will be 65 in four months and have noticed my taste has change a lot in the last year! Thanks again!
